Crap Referees

I bet the audio will be of one of the first two penalty appeals though, and most likely the Reyna one.

I've never seen the program as I don't have sky
Hopefully they compare to similar instances, ie Gordon gets a penalty for the same thing almost every week!

So the 3rd penalty was a tussle for the ball, Attwell is a cheat. Anthony Taylor is a muppet.

Audio footage on talkSPORT now.

No bias there lol, how the hell are they getting away with it ! I really think the PL can’t afford for us to go down, it won’t be taken lightly and the ensuing court case will dominate next season I would think.

Tussle or tackle from behind without touching the ball.

Simple question... did the defender get the ball? Yes or no. Would cho have fallen to the ground if Ashley Young had not slid into the back of him? Yes / no.

This guy has the benefit of slow motion replay and could not work out that that was a foul. If that is the case, he should be disqualified as a ref.

IF VAR couldn't identify that I don't want to know what he came up with for the other 2.

They’d have been better off saying they accidentally deleted it rather than playing that to the public. Not sure what else to say. It’s staggering really that they can make such a mess of it

At least it removes all doubt. They are completely incompetent.

There's a proverb for this. 'There is none so blind as they that will not see.'

Having thought about it, counter-intuitively it suits Atwell and the PGMOL to be seen in this case to be merely incompetent. "We're all human", said Webb today.

For a highly paid professional to demonstrate such a fundamental misreading of a clearly apparent action, and also the rules that apply to it, stretches credibility till it snaps.

This is beyond incompetence because to reach Atwell's position requires both working eyes and an understanding of basic rules.

Is there a slyer form of dishonesty than wilful blindness?

Howard Webb should be out of a job in the summer. Standards have gotten worse throughout his time replacing Mike Riley. I know he had the introduction of VAR and there were going to be issues but look at the state of it.

Id happily bring in someone from Europe on big money.

Love your post- a true wordsmith.

And the subtle nuance within raises some very basic questions for Webb which I will frame in very basic language-

1. If not biased, why was Attwell so shit?
(He’s only human doesn’t really cut it, Howard; at least not with the benefit of countless replays and slow motions). VAR is meant to remove that human error isn’t it?

2. What are you going to do about it?
(Will the axe fall? No mention or reparations, disciplinary action or solution instigation other than ‘we sit around and talk about it every month’).

And a broader question-

3. If the first two aren’t penalties, then why are the rest of your employees giving them on a regular basis in other games and for other teams? (Eg the Man Utd handball the same day and a hundred ‘soft’ penalties given for similar challenges as that on Reyna.)
Is the ‘humanity’ defence not just another way of dressing up mass incompetence?

It still has a very distinct smell to it.
