I'm sorry but I don't and won't agree that he is something special and will magically transform himself in to a player that some of you are hoping that he will be, we need someone better than Yates.

You should really have a look at his stats before concluding. I'm afraid your observations are far off.

Really so how many goals did he score and how many assists were contributed to him, and lastly how many needless free kicks did he give away, sorry he's just not good enough.

You are right, those are of course the only relevant stats for any player. Goals, assist and needless free kicks.  :D

It's not his job to score goals to be fair he's not a striker. The job that he is in the team to do he does it pretty well. If you don't know what that job is then I am not going to spell it out for you.

Nobody said he was perfect, if he could make slide rule passes and had scored 15 last season he would have made a big money move to the PL already. He is improving year on year for me and I agree he has a big season coming up where he needs to polish his game somewhat but I think he can do it. His attitude, workrate and leadership are already there, qualities that got someone like Wes Morgan a couple of winners medals.

So according to you then, it's only the strikers job to score goals, no wonder we struggle with getting goals, I'm grateful you are not the manager, I thought it was down to our midfield players to get the ball up to the striker/s in order to get the goals, so he's no good at that either

By which logic Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips are both crap too.

No they are good quality players, we have a headless chicken that some on here think is the next Messi, you couldn't make it up.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, mine is that I don't rate him and I also don't think that he is good enough.

Sniff the only thing that I can work out is that he takes up a shirt that a better player would be best suited, I'm sorry mate but I'm being honest, I do hope that this season he improves and proves me wrong, I don't like to drag our players down, but I haven't seen anything from him that shouts that he is a valuable player who will go places and will improve our squad of players.

People get an hard on over Yates because he came through our academy(he’s nearly 24), if we’d signed him from an another club then people wouldn’t be so arsed and see him for what he actually is…a below mediocre championship midfielder.

Fair enough Madforit mate no problem it's a good debate.

Personally I think that defensive midfielders tend to get no limelight etc because of the unfashionable job what they do if that's the right word. I think the Yate's, McGovern's, Phillips and Rice's of this world will always be under rated by many fans but tend to be loved by most managers. It's probably because they don't provide fancy flicks and outrageous pieces of skill like other player's on the pitch. I understand why it happens.
