As a big fan of Sab, the problem I see is that the core of what worked for him last year isn't now available this year.

Sab built a team on the following solid defence:

Cash - sold
Daws - past it
Worrall - injured
Ribero - victim of off having the wring agent
Watson - released
Sow - never recovered from injury properly

This new squad doesn't have the same strength defensively IMO (e.g. Christie is a good attacking FB, but frail defensively, Soh & McKenna don't have Daws experience or ability to pass, Colback is a good player, but can't "Pirlo" like Watson)

I won't grumble if Sab gets more time, but our strength now lies in having several players - Freeman, Grabban, Taylor & Grosicki - who are proven goalscorers at this level.

That is where the focus should lie, and if Sab doesn't make that his focus, he's the wrong man for this squad.

Yep pretty much agree with that. He needs to adjust the approach to take advantage of the players he has now. If he doesn't and gets sacked then it's only him who is to blame.

I believe you will have to give the team a bit more time before concluding on what they are capable of. Is it 13 new players if Grosicki signs today?

Just to explain my thought process.........

I've seen Christie a decent amount at previous clubs, Derby the main one obv, and I'd definitely say his strength is in attack not defence.

Soh & McKenna - two players who have never played in the Championship before. I don't think I need to see much of them to assume they won't have Dawson's experience. But yes I am assuming they can't pass like him, but not many Championship CB's can as he's a Prem quality player who has just gotten old. 

Colback I've also seen plenty of, as I'm sure many of us have on here. He made some decent forward passes, but I don't ever recall him spreading the ball around - especially to the flanks - like Watson did last year. In fact I think that Watson's & Daws passing is one of our biggest misses currently.

So the question to ponder is when Sabri arrived, did he just happen to be lucky and find the club already had the players capable of playing the system he wanted to, or did he formulate the system based on the players who were here?

The more I see of his rigid approach I'm minded to think it's the former rather than the latter, as the players have gone but the system remains and he seems unwilling to change it, until the team goes 2 down at which point he throws caution to the wind. As I said above, if he cant change or adapt the system, he can have no quarms when he gets the bullet as it's clear it's not working any more.

I disagree with this. The way I see it the reason for the early problems is that we are actually trying to play with a higher press. That combined with a completely new team will naturally create some challenges. The game against Bristol we should arguably have won as we played the best football and had the most big chances. I'm certain Sabri will get results soon if he's allowed to continue.

I’m really unsure about Howe. Failed at Burnley and only done it at Bournemouth and it wasn’t quite the fairytale rags to riches some have you believe.

I thought Pearson perfected Sabri ball, I don't know, not looking for an argument as I know you don't like Pearson but he's the only 1 from Nottingham, that'll do for me, besides I got plenty to argue he is better than Howe or Hughton, i think our squad needs or will need some tough love for sure

Howe is 42 and Hughton is 61. Howe plays possession based football with short passing trying to play "attractive" football while Hughton is a lot more risk averse (more like Sabri). If we are to change coach I see no point in getting Hughton as he's too similar to Sabri and probably not prepared to change. Howe however has something different that could create some much needed excitement.

Anyone see Natalie Jackson on the news just now, apparently said Sabri will be gone by the end of the week and that Howe, Pearson and Hughton are in the frame to take over. Anyone confirm that?

She didn’t say that he ‘will’ be gone.
I think the word used was ‘could’.

I saw that too. She was put on the spot a bit TBH when asked what was happening. IMO, she hasn't got a clue what is happening, anymore than anyone on here has. Then she was asked who might be taking over and her reply was Houghton, Pearson..............oh and not forgetting Howe! 

Names trawled off of social media and pure speculation on her part!

I wouldn't be surprised if Sabri is given a stay of execution to try and get the new players to gel and provided things did start to turn around, with new tactics and an improvement in results, then I for one would be delighted. If things dont change, then I will accept we need a change in manager

Sabri has gone. Will Probably be announced when the new man is appointed.
