Colback needs to play if he is to get up to speed.

Ryan has played ok this season but not any better than that.

He should have scored the easiest chance of the game against Cardiff but fluffed his lines.

However since the start of the 18/19 season with Yates in the team we have:

Played 31; Won 10; Drawn 8; Lost 13

That’s a win percentage of 32% and a loss percentage of 42% for those percentage fans out there.

Without Ryan in the team our record is:

Played 22; Won 10; Drawn 7; Lost 5

That’s a win percentage of 45% and a loss percentage of 23%

For me he weakens the Team as a whole, he hasn’t contributed enough on the pitch and doesn’t warrant being part of the first eleven.

Just my opinion though.

I advise you to read the tactical review/explanation of the Cardiff game from ForestBoffin.

It's a decent read and I do like FBs stuff but it fails to ignore one significant factor and that is the change in mindset of Cardiff during the second half. They were coasting, Harris said as much, they stopped doing the same things and applying themselves in the same way that they set up first half.

However, the analysis by FB and the Cardiff game in isolation are irrelevant to the stats I quoted.

I'm not sure there'll be a riot on here? I suspect one or two will be extremely unhappy but each to their own.

It could be argued that with our results with him in or out of the team then he shouldn't be picked ahead of either of the other two mentioned.

I'd pick Colback over Yates atm. But, I don't like a young lad becoming the scapegoat for poor results. Some have written him off, I haven't. He's got something about him and if he can develop his game, he'll become an asset. Every manager who's had him has thought he was great.

I don't think he is a scapegoat, a term for the snowflake generation if ever there was one.

It is ok to criticise any player, whether they came from our academy or a record signing. It's part of the game and existed long before the internet. To be honest anyone who puts any credence in what is posted on Twitter or Facebook needs to give their head a wobble, its not representative of anything.

I provided some stats to illustrate our performance with him in and out of the team. The same can be done for any player but this is a thread about Ryan Yates.

I think he can improve and will. The same could have been said about Ben Brereton.

Yes and Yates was probably our best player in that game.

Ridiculous. So Lamouchi's opinion doesn't count then? Yea right, OK. And anyway, I'm talking about all his managers. Loan managers at Notts, Scunny etc etc. Everyone who's had him has ended up raving about him. 

And if you're true to your stats based assessment of his value to the side, he'll never improve because he would never be given the opportunity to play. How many games are young lads allowed to play before your negative stats rule comes in and they are required to be dropped?

I have seen enough to suggest that Yates is a decent enough player now and with the potential to improve.
He deserves his place on current form and I'd argue only Worrall, Freeman and Ameobi are close to him for form. He has been better than colback and was the least of our problems on Saturday.

Yuri playing at full back was the reason we lost the early impetus on Saturday. Blackett needed to start as much more physical and maybe - just maybe Cardiff wouldn't have had as much early joy. I counted 5 long balls into the left channel on saturday in the first 2 minutes...

what i have found particularly odd is that yates has played on the left and colback on the right in the midfield in the last 2 games.. Can anyone explain that?

Correct, the bar was very low, we lost two nil. 

He also fluffed the best chance of the match for us.

I didn’t say that it didn’t matter. 

What I pointed out that the perspective that every manager who’s had him has picked him holds little water, primarily because they failed so clearly we’re not getting their selection right. 

In fact, it’s actually not true, Aitor refused to pick him after stopping him going out on loan. 

His age doesn’t mean anything to me, the stats do speak for themselves though. I think with Ryan in the side it’s largely been imbalanced in midfield except where him and Watson were paired together under MON.
