It may turn out to be 'just' a re-vamp of the Main Stand, a new roof for example but the size will remain the same (for now).

Still it will cost a bob or  two...would it be worth it?...new roof means new supporting frame ...probably the whole structure will need to be brought down...i dont think that a sensible structural engineel will want to use foundations nd a 40 year old frame to support a new roof ...this is not a shed in a garden...lots of factors involved...

No one is saying that it's going to be easy or cheap, it's complex stuff which is probably why nothing has been annouced yet. One thing is for sure though, something has to be done, the Main Stand is a disgrace at the minute, leaving it has it is cannot be an option.

I was looking at this photo of the Main Stand fire in 1968 in the 'Those Were The Days My Friend' part of the forum.
50 years later and the stand barley looks any different apart from the front terracing being replaced by seats.
It's time to get it sorted.

Spent last year in B2 mainstand - always been in TE / BC previsously. Personally thought it was the best experience :)

When I go and see Forest, I do like sitting high up in the Brian Clough stand. Great view from up there.

As for the 'main stand...' It's long overdue for a revamp and some TLC. (It was nice to see the new owners come in and give the place a lick of paint and...some nice red astro turf for the tech' area and the dug outs having some attention.)

A two tier structure? We'll see. Be nice to get it done next year. It would really help improve the state of the ground overall. Maybe add a few thousand to capacity as well? If the corners were filled in...would gates be upto about 35k capacity?

It's just nice to hear about improvements to the Ground, so long neglected under previous owners. When we think about how much money has been wasted on temporary, mediocre player staff and paying off 'so-so' managers...the infrastructure was getting rusty, dirty and seats and paint faded looking.

Great to hear the new owners have an overall plan re: off the field, infrastructure, manager, playing staff, medical improvements (Forest seemed to have had a lot of players out injured) and maybe recruitment is linked to the latter.

New stand? Be great when it happens. *thumps up.

Imminent was not the words used (I was there). An announcement is scheduled but fans misreported, misquoted or misunderstood the timescale.

I would hope that that comment regarding an announcement hasn't been forgotten about or was used to get additional season card sales. We have been there many times before with previous owners ("are you ready for promotion" springs to mind) but then no substance thereafter.

I am not implying that our current owners are anything like their previous incumbents, but we Reds fans have been treated so badly and  disrespectfully in the past, i would not want to see this happening again.

Sorry for my negativity on what is a very positive and enjoyable forum, but i do think negative things do have to be raised in any debate, even if it is to just rule out that negative train of thought.

Good post Tricky, not ITK on this matter but I did hear that work will begin on the Main Stand in 2019.
To be fair, I suppose they can't really make any official announcement until all the hurdles have been cleared regarding permission etc.

You are absolutely right Duncan!

I am going through a similar thing at work at the present time, where we are going to relocate in about a years time.

Everyone and his dog knew the location we are moving to, but the company couldn't announce anything until all of the legal stuff had been signed off etc.

With that in mind, i am now hopeful that the main stand issue is currently in the hands of lawyers,  planners, financial advisers and architects etc so nothing can be confirmed until all parties are legally satisfied  :shy:

As previously discussed. the right to light for the adjacent properties seems to be a big problem. One way to design a new main stand which seamlessly integrates with the Bridgeford stand roof would be to adopt a similar concept / approach to the Aviva stadium (albeit on a much smaller scale) in Dublin, whereby light is maintained through utilising glazing to the higher parts of the stand. The lower tier of the Bridgeford could wrap around however the roof could tie in to the adjacent stand, with the second and maybe third tiers introduced further down. Just an idea

Ive just been trying to make any sense of the Right to Light legislation. No wonder I'm not a Lawyer!!!! However, because of the complexity of the legislation, the club could face many years of legal battles and challenges before plans can finally be approved. On the pluus side to this is the fact that the club Chairman is a very well respected QC and will no doubt either be well learned in the ways this legislation works, or will seek advice from one of his many contacts of whom will be learned in the legislation.

I have been trying to phathom out just how much light would be lost to those properties at the rear of the stand, bearing in mind, they have 8-10 foot high walls between the properties and the City Ground, which must already take up a significant amount of light, which wouldn't (IMO) be that much more affected if a larger Main Stand were to be built.

There is the possibility though that should a potential new stand 'injure' the residents living behind the ground, and it affects their daylight rather marginally, then at worst the club could be made to pay compensation by the courts, should a legal challenge ever be made. The worst case scenario though is the Court could actually order the club to pull the new stand down, should it be deemed to be affecting the residents daylight considerably.

Therefore, it is imperative that the club are absolutely bang on the money when it comes to deciding if a new stand is feasible or how it can be constructed in a way that does not impede the residents legal rights to daylight.

My only real concern here is the club look at building the new stand from 2 levels and gradually raising to 3 and/or 4 levels, which i think would look stupid and totally unattractive, as well as giving opposition fans plenty of ammo to fire at us and our home.
