More a question of why they have not been invloved under MON.
They are both fit enough because they have turned out for the under 23's and are training every day.

It's a fair point I think.

Both Yates and Pele have struggled a bit in their last 2 games.

I think so.  For all the critics Watson has, could he have done any worse sitting in front of the back four?  Villa went straight through our midfield...and through Colback and Pele.

If they had got past Colback, I'd like to think Watson 'av it' would have punted McGinn up into the air.  I'm not advocating we do that...just suggesting that Watson may have used less refinement in interrupting McGinn's progress...

SA.

McGinn was quality and would have been quality whoever he was up against IMO. But, I was surprised Pele started. It was a massive game to play on a 2nd appearance and with Yates alongside him and Carvalho in front of him I thought we looked a bit naive and lightweight in the middle.

And Yates was arguably more influential?

That's a sound observation, Username.  Why?

Because Watson was 'holding' BUT he was guiding Yates in each match they played together.  'Experience.'

Not sure Pele has had the same influence on Yates.

Watson has his critics.  And we know why.  He's old.  So is Dawson, whose last injury seems to have done for him in a Forest shirt.  (Hope not.)  But I feel he brought more out of young Yates.  In a kind of Des Walker and Dawson kind of way.  I feel Watson has enough in the tank to sit in front of the back four, he doesn't have to have the legs there...just 'ave it' launch any ball or player out of the way.  Let Yates and Colback be the legs.

Watson is vocal and experienced enough to help Yates in that way.  I don't get vibe from Pele or Colback who have it all on looking after their own games.

That's what Watson does bring.  Leadership.  It's a pity we don't have time machines to go back in time and test a different set of players vs the opposition.  'If only...' and 'What if...'

SA.

That’s how I see it SA, I made the point pre Villa but the general consensus was that Pele’s performance against Hull warranted that he keep his place.

Yates has not been great in the past two games but he’s a young lad still learning. I think Watson is an important part of that process. Equally I don’t think he should be playing on the right wing from what i’v seen of him.

Agree, Yates is a DCM, suits the 4231 formation best and at the moment he still needs a bit of a wise head alongside him. I dont want to see him played out of position and for his confidence to drop, we really need to nurture him for the future.

Ive said above we really do need to cut down on the numbers we have on the books for this position. And I know it’s unfair to judge after 3 games but Pele’s signing was downright odd. Ive only just realised we still officially have Tachtsidis on the books too.

It comes back to the same old problem again Salvatore. Bad recruitment.

We are so heavily stocked in some areas yet so light in other areas.

Completely unbalanced squad.

we have so many CBs and midfielders to get rid of now. will dawson ever play again?

That villa game was a bit of a one off though. I mean out of interest who would people have preferred to see play against villa at right wing. Goncalves? Darikwa maybe?! Clutching at straws really

Agree again ... the truth is, not only we are overloaded with average players, but to build a proper promotion winning team... I think we have to get rid of all ....
No sense asking to have Watson on the pitch to baby sit Yates !! .... or Yates is going to be ready to play in a promotion chasing team or he is not... Lolley apart, the midfield has to be rebuild if we are really serious about promotion ... defence we can get away with 50 %, the forward line we have only 30% of what we need, to really have a promotion chasing team/squad ...

Clough, Vellios and Hefele.

It won't be easy to shift them will it?

apparently part of the reason scholes left oldham was because the owners wanted to give Iacovitti a two year contract without even consulting scholes.
