BJ sale makes zero difference in terms of going forward, because PSR calcs are rolling 3 years totals , so whether 22/23 or 23/24 they are still included.
The club projected losses of circa 17m this year (that will include BJ). Whether Mangala sale being activated at 15m is included in the 17m projected losses could be key.
So we needed to generate about 20-25m of profit before 30th June to hit the numbers.
It looks like 1 big sale needed before 30th June to hit that.
From 1st July things look better, allowable losses will be 105m, and we have loads off the wage bill.
So you would like to think a good window could help us close the gap to the 10-15th positions

The premier league has become a cartel. Looks like we knowingly broke the rules but they are anti competitive and designed to keep out anybody new. I hope we stay up but football in this country is desperate for an independent regulator.

Yep likely sale of Murillo will keep us within. 30/40m profit there. Would actually give us quite a bit of headspace next season.

Ridiculous.
No, it only encourages sales of assets for below market rates if you've pushed the boundaries previously so hard that you need to make a last minute sizable sale to get back under the psr limit. What happened is we basically maxed out to the limit and then argued that our PSR period should be determined over 3 years and 2 months, rather than the 3 years every other club worked to.
The fact that we failed to win one single argument in our entire case, heard now by two different panels, suggests to me that our case was basically a load of old cobblers and it was fabricated to mask a series of events that occurred for no other reason than rank bad management.
If we do go down this year imo the finger's pointing squarely in the direction of the owner. Not the manager, not the player, not refs, just the owner. I say that as someone who's been previously very supportive of the guy (and will be in the future if no more of these ridiculous events occur again).
Agree the first 2 paragraphs.
Re EM, 2 things
First I think you can definitely point fingers at the squad and manager(s) too. We should as a squad have enough about us having spent over £200 million to finish 4 points clear of Luton. Its a shambles that we seem to be struggling to do so.
Second I maintain willingly breaking the rules to get a only 4 point deduction was worth it. That extra spend bought us another year in the PL and should have bought us a third year too. As the first point it is the incompetence of the playing staff that we aren’t laughing and going well done EM, Premier League on strings etc.
I just cant accept Salv that EM made a strategic decision to break the rules in some kind of grand masterplan to stay in the division. I can accept that he thought he needed to buy say Chris Wood or otherwise we'd be relegated. But it's clear to me that those kinds of key decisions were made in a kind of crisis management type of way, where decisions are made on the hoof and not via some perfectly executed plan.
Plus we could've done way more to sell Brennan in June, based on the original report we did nothing then rejected a decent bid on 30th June. If we had accepted that bid, even if it then fell through our mitigation would've probably worked. Oh also, not play him in August, that was such a big mistake.
That said, we're saying all this with the benefit of hindsight and having been the first team to work through and set these precedents. Everton and others have spent recklessly for years and got away with it so you can understand why we'd have rolled the dice and not expected such a big penalty.
Hopefully win on Saturday, sell someone next month then we can put this behind us.

If we stay up I’d love to keep Murillo for 1 more year - surely we can get rid of some others- instead?

Sell Murillo to any of EM clubs for say £20 million and loan him back with a potential to buy him back at season end, simple!

There will be suitors for Murillo but how many have cash to splash by 30th June? It will also be common knowledge we need to sell.
Its a tragedy that one of the finest prospects this club has ever had may have to be sold at below market rates simply to meet an absurd set of rules.

It's one of the most frustrating things about this season in that as fans we can see that there is the nucleus of a pretty decent squad developing.
The other problem however is that it feels virtually impossible for a club of our size to ever be competitive - the rules feel like that for every step forward, we have to take two steps back.
It's feels hopeless whichever way I look at it. Stay up and have our best players poached for bargain prices causing another season of struggle where we face another risk of points deduction or get relegated and have our best players poached for bargain prices and battle for an immediate return. Damned if we don't, damned if we do.

I disagree to an extent here, the issue we've found is very specific to a promoted team, we felt it more due to our lack of parachute payments previously.
Plus they're changing the rules after this year anyway although not convinced that'll help.
