Nottingham Forest could leave City Ground
Nottingham Forest have threatened to leave the City Ground amid a row with the council over rent – and they have no fewer than four options for a new home. The club lease the land on which their iconic base since 1898 sits from the local authority, who are now demanding the £250,000 rent is increased to £1m.

That prompted chairman Tom Cartledge to comment that unless there was ‘significant progress’ they may have to ‘look elsewhere’. That elsewhere could be land bought – and now not needed – for HS2.

The Independent Alliance opposition group on Notts County Council say the Toton site could be an ideal home and will attempt to move a motion at a meeting later this month.

However, Cartledge told Agenda Toton is not the only alternative. ‘Since we made public our frustration with the city council we have been delighted with the response from a wide-range of organisations in the region,’ he said.

‘As a result we have had four potential sites proposed to us. While we prefer to remain at the City Ground we are now evaluating those options.’

At a guess, I would say one is near to the power station or near to the tram terminus just outside Clifton?

For me, the fact is this.............

IF, and it is a big IF, we do decide to move, it would have to be within the city limits. We are NOTTINGHAM Forest, not Nottinghamshire Forest. We are the city side in Nottingham. Notts County are the county side..........bit of a clue in the names really isnt there!! The fact we currently play in the county, rather than the city limits is down to political boundaries being changed, not through any fault of the club. Even the name of our home is in tribute to Nottingham becoming a city!

I've read this morning that Toton is being discussed next week by the County Council as a new site for the City Ground.
What do people who know the area think of that?
As long as it's next to the river I think I'd be happy... not that I get to go very often.

I feel the ground being central means it’s quite close for most people. If not driving you bus it to town and walk or in my case bus straight to the ground.

Currently it’s about a 20 minute bus ride for me, being at Toton it would be over an hour using public transport (mainly tram) and they will obviously want a massive public transport strategy if it were built there.

I know I’m fairly lucky, and on a Saturday/Sunday game in the day that would be too bad but evening games would be a nightmare
