Nice to see the MOTD panel agree it was a penalty while laughing about the fact Newcastle got away with it. About as professional as the refereeing.

It was a clear penalty - had that been a top six sides player its given.......as its us..........not given.

Yep that’s fine. Keep convincing yourself thats the problem and hold up your “Premier League Corrupt as xxxx” card in the Championship and see if anyone else in the country cares.

Salv, if the penalty is given we go 3-2 ahead after being behind twice. The CG is rocking and Newcastle are flat as a pancake. You tell me that one decison didnt change the result.

I’m right behind the goal, most of us didn’t think pen, T had already lost control of the ball. I accept I haven’t watched it back, can’t be arsed to see the motd / Shearer smugfest.

People are deflecting from the real problem which is our goals conceded.

I agree about our goals conceded Salv but ive just watched motd. Penalty should have been given according to shearer & Keown. So thats the bbc and sky,  and the entire f*****g world except the d***head of a ref and his mates in the var. What the f**k is going on with these kind of decisons? We've been robbed, again.

Oh and the blatant block for their 3rd goal was laughed off as an nfl block on motd. Ha ha very f*****g funny Shearer. He was a cheating b*****d himself iirc.

Hmmm. We can go on about being unlucky and penalties and afcon blah blah blah but we need to accept we are in massive trouble.

Just look at what we had on the pitch for the last 20 mins and it’s a million miles away from being decent enough to survive. Reyna and Danilo centre mid, origi up top. Divock isn’t good enough for the championship.

No real desire or intent in the last 15 mins. Same as brentford and Bournemouth when we were happy to play tippy tappy with no real intensity when we had the chance to do so much more.

Crowd was very flat as well. Almost like we are resigned to our fate. 2nd season syndrome?

Something needs to change, and fast.

Beating Newcastle away and united at home at Christmas I was quietly confident we would be ok but the break afterwards seems to have effected us badly. I do think we've become more competitive but the results speak for themselves and I do fear for us now even before the potential points deduction.

The goals conceded from set pieces is embarrassing.. we rarely make 1st contact and then it's just panic stations

Think the crowd was flat because after the 3rd goal Newcastle shut the game down and everyone could see we had nothing left in the tank. Shutting the game down though is something Forest are notoriously crap at in the same position.

Agree with some but not all of your observations. Danilo is good enough but we need a proper enforcer in midfield, we all hope Sangare will be that figure although only shown it in patches to date. Reyna I have no idea but its a big big ask for any youngster to step up to this level and perform straight away. Origi I agree isn’t at the level we need.

What worries me is we have had bad luck but you make your own luck too. Classically relegated teams start brightly, play well, concede a soft one, ref gives decision wrong way, they end up losing. We seem to be in that spiral right now.

Everything little mistake we make seems to get punished.

I suppose that is because of the elite level we are playing at and the elite players we are playing against.

I see plenty of positives but at the same time plenty of negatives too.

To sum up it's a tough watch at the minute but I see cause for optimism but things need to change fast starting next Saturday with West Ham.

2nd season syndrome is very real, but the referees were following the script yesterday we weren’t allowed to win because the others lost. Botman Apparantly not offside, Elanga pushed in the back, Trippier Handball, Taiwo tripped by Dubravka, Dominguez clearly blocked by Burn. We should have been down to 10 late on through Gibbs White. Can’t believe we didn’t appoint Gianni Vio an actually set piece specialist but no Cooper wanted someone he knew. That’s what has cost us in the defending aspect.

I agree with your comment The Reds, SC did us NO favours not wanting the set piece coach at the start of the season, looking back this is now costing us dear!

This is critical in my opinion. I feel it is a farce to not have any real clue as to what the punishment could be. There is, to a lay person like me, a complete lack of transparency in the system.

Personally I was amazed that Niakahte was allowed to start last night ahead of Omo.

I honestly thought that last night was a decent performance. Newcastle are well versed in the dark arts and it showed at critical times- blocks on players for all three goals- they won everything in their own box and therein lies the difference. Nuno said as much at the end too.
Thought keeper was a bit unlucky with their third- should have had a pen. Another day they get penalised for blocks in build up.
Our team looked balanced and once we sorted marking out when trippier went into midfield we looked a match for them.
Disagree that reyna and danillo are poor subs - MGW went into a deeper role and the reason we didn’t mount a grandstand finish was them being effective in closing out the game with good tactical play.
Eddie Howe gets plaudits but their football amounts to Warnock like pressure and playing for free kicks and corners. They just have better players than us and should do for 3 times as much money spent on the squad.
We competed well and play like that and we will get the points needed.
Bring on West Ham!
