Well we wont have the wages of Henderson, Lingard, Navas, or Lodi to worry about.

It would be interesting to see how this current squad might fare in the Championship TBH, although I do think we will seriously consider selling Johnson to help balance the books.

Does anybody have any other suggestions of sales of players where we might get a decent fee or no loss to our initial outlay?

It would depend when we make the sale, if it's before 30th June then it means we're struggling as we need it for next year's accounts. Otherwise those sales would go into the next championship season.

Take Freuler as an example though, paid 10m approx, lets presume he signed a 3 year deal. That would mean that in the next set of accounts it'll show a 3m hit and for the next two years after that. If we sold him for half that say 5m in the summer, we'd have to take the 7m remaining in his value so we'd make a loss on that transaction of 2m say. However, we then wouldn't need to pay the amortisation of 3m so net 1m, plus we'd save on his wages.

The point to note is that selling players isn't going to necessarily just cover losses. UNLESS, they are academy players or free transfers as we can book their entire fee instantly and there's nothing to offset. Eg Brennan would make us a killing. Lets just hope his release clause isn't too low.

Yates, Worrall (sensing a pattern here). McKenna? Felipe? Maybe Surridge at a push. Probably about it.

Agreed that maybe selling even for a loss might not redeem matters financially but wages will be reduced. I also believe if we do find ourselves in the Championship then EM will want an instant return, how do the figures stack-up for a rebuild?

We'll be fine, we have plenty of assets. We don't need a rebuild anyway, our squad is stacked for the championship even if we sell/release half of them.

We probably only need 3-4 players in depending on exactly who leaves.

For me this was always the big benefit and I think we've done well on that front. Set ourselves up nicely with a mixture of young players and championship level veterans. Plus two years of parachute payments to maintain a high wage bill.

So if we go down then we have to sell one decent player to balance the books? What's changed? That was always the case.

And imo Yates will attract a few offers in thr summer.

What's changed is our remaining squad will be stacked in comparison to recent years in the championship, with a decent age profile in some areas and plenty of resale value.

Also we can afford to keep more of them due to parachute payments.

FFP next year. Current wages reported to be 61m per year.
Henderson, Navas, Lodi loans to end - yearly wages reported at least 10m
Ayew, Arter, Aurier, Cafu, Colback, Linguard, Lyle Taylor - out of contract - reported yearly wages 11m

I wonder who we’ll get as sponsor next season.

I know EM was playing hardball this season but you feel he may have a better position to get what he wants this off-season. Did we ever find out who the could have beens were?

Thought i read somewhere that the current sponsorship was for 1.5 years and so will be on next season's shirts? May be wrong.

I think it was just for the rest of the season. I'm thinking we'll get multiple sponsors soon
