Should We Buy A New Goalkeeper?

We have moved on to needing a ball playing keeper as we are dominating more games - especially at home. Away he is fine as we often need to slow it down. His kicking is OK but not when we need to set the tempo.

How many points did he save us!

Agreed but we were a top flight club at the time. Shilton when we signed him still held the world record for highest ever fee paid for a goalkeeper. Thats the sort of signing that gets you an extra 15 points a season. Realistically who can we sign that would achieve the same in the Championship?

And Villa will no doubt be on the look out for a new keeper in January too. As usual we'll have to wait patiently in line while they decide who they're going to take.

And to think they they (Villa) were intersting in signing Pantilimon last summer.

That to me highlights the importance of having a top class goalkeeper. It is such an important position.

For me it's not just his kicking, I feel a few of the goals that we have conceded this season he could and should have done better with. I am sure that Costel would himself admit that.

The team as a whole all have to take the credit for not conceding many goals not just the goalkeeper. Some will argue that the team have to take the blame for goals conceded as well, I get that argument.

I don’t buy into the fact that the keeper situation has changed.

Villa who have a large number of clean sheets in 2018 too have recognised their shortfall and signed Croatia’s international goalkeeper for £6m.

It’s that kind of ambition that makes teams really competitive.

Sorry, but his kicking wasn't good against Derby if finding a teammate is considered the main objective.

His kicking has been terrible all season, are the coaches not working on this in training? Surely it has to be technique.

The fans wouldn't get on his back if he wasn't so obviously bad. Opposition who have done their homework can just pressure us to pass it back and get given the ball.

What the hell was he doing in the very last seconds when he kicked it straight out of play right on the edge of our own box?

Thankfully the ref blew the whistle before the throw in was taken and a cross came over.
