58 votes, 48 say yes, we should sign a new goalkeeper and 10 say we should not.
Can anyone else except Zicorice (who tried above) of the 10 that voted no please tell us why we should not replace a goalkeeper who is costing us points, lost his confidence and looks totally out of sorts and could be the difference between getting promotion or not this season.

I agree, Duncan.
He's costed Forest enough points to have put Forest top 3 at least.
Action does need taking in January to address this area. It's not the only defensive area that needs looking at, however.
Without Dawson at CH and Jack at LB...it's highlighted areas of improvement in the squad where Forest are stretched for depth.
(Some may argue that CH is an exceptional situation with a booking and two injuries seeing Forest 'short.' I think Forest are short of a 'younger' Dawson at 27 model. )
Was it Norwich that had a couple of German defenders '6 foot plus' at CH?
I didn't like Forest losing at Preston. Pants doesn't inspire confidence at the back. And that's where you start building a team.
When I think about Dave Beasant, I seem to recall him making some flying saves. I'm not getting that vibe from Pants. From what I've seen, very rooted on the goal line and I don't like that. I like a Smicheals barging through a sea of players and you claim the thing. You've got two big rubber gloves (no jokes...) and you have to grab a ball...and you're the most protected species on the pitch.
You're 7ft with your arms in the air....how do you not 'pluck' a ball off someone's head? You can stride out and catch it? And many posters are now observing the distribution (not great before but getting worse?)

I wasn’t convinced when we signed Pants and after that first game against Fulham when the goal went through him I was sure he wasn’t the answer to the GK “issue”. For a giant of a man he just doesn’t command his area or seem to install confidence in the defence and at his height he should be claiming everything thrown in to the box, he just seems to be scared of getting hit or taking a knock. And don’t start me on his distribution. He’ll have my full support whilst he’s playing, but for me he is a weak link that I hope we’re looking to address and need to address if we are realistically looking towards the top 2 and even the top 6.

I would prefer to look at it from the perspective that possibly a top quality goalkeeper would earn us a few more points which could well be the difference between promotion and missing out.
I do however think it is very harsh to say Pants is costing us points. No he doesnt command his area as well as a giant should and his kicking isnt great but that doesn’t necessarily mean we have leaked goals because of it.
My concern is that Whatever we might wish, I dont think Karanka will get another goalkeeper in January which means for better or worse we have Pants for at least this season. Constantly groaning every time he flaps or kicks the ball out of play wont help his confidence at all. Weve been doing this sort of things to our goalkeepers for years, I remember we ground down Mark Crossley’s confidence years back and I reckon most of us agree he was a decent keeper who went on to play top flight football after he left us.
To those who want to play Steele, what evidence do you have that he is any better? His only experience of English 1st team football was with Barnsley and his last game over 3 years ago. You want to put him in against Derby? Yes I know he played in the league cup, I thought he was well dodgy, should have given away a nailed on pen against Newcastle, probably a red card too.
Whilst we have invested heavily in the forward line, actually barring Darikwa who was a Warburton buy we have pretty much filled our defence with free transfers. So is it a great surprise that we let in a few goals sometimes? Pants is Probably an averge keeper and he is surrounded by mostly average defenders. I do think a better goalkeeper would be a good investment but Im not sure it is this years gameplan.

Good post Salvatore and nice to get an opposing view if that is the right word.
I would argue though that Steele has played more games in The Championship than Pantilimon and he has also played in some very big local derbies such as Olympiakos - Panathinaikos, AEK Athens - Panathnaikos etc so he certainly won't be fazed by playing against Derby County at Pride Park.
For what it's worth I think Forest WILL try and sign a goalkeeper in January and rightly so in my opinion.
