New CEO Is Dane Murphy

Percy tweeted it himself last night. The trouble with delicate issues like the ceo leaving is that the press get bought off by the club so you dont ever know what to believe.

Interesting the way many people particularly on Twitter are refusing to believe some stories about Dane now emerging.

Been thinking about it and actually it does all fit, and although it pains me to say it gives Sniffer his smug moment!

Firstly so what if Murphy wanted Marsch over Cooper. It may have been more sensible on paper than someone who had failed to get promoted twice with one of the biggest budgets and best squads in the Championship. Plus Marsch looks to be doing a half decent job with Leeds.

The main bit from Percy’s tweet people dont want to hear is that Murphy didnt back Cooper over the summer. This is pretty well what Sniffer and Zico were alluding to in the summer that Dane had been moved off transfers.
Why would he not back Cooper? Maybe he wanted a different approach more like the Norwich/West Brom yoyo way of doing it, go up invest modestly, get thoroughly stuffed every game, get relegated but build a much stronger squad next time.

Its easy to forget the eye watering investment EM has made, 5th biggest spend in Europe, its a heck of a gamble. Murphy is responsible for over 200 employees at NFFC and overseeing the business. Maybe he thought the level of spending was more than we should be doing. A few of us on here I know have had concerns about long term should we be relegated maybe thats what Murphy was thinking.

However pretty well the entire fanbase is on board with what Marinakis is trying to achieve by having a proper go at the Premier League and trying to stay in it. If the worst happens I think most of us agree we would need to sell but hopefully the sums are OK. Just Murphy may have been trying to do this in a more conservative sustainable way that will never work with Marinakis who we know doesn’t accept failure.

Whichever the theory fits that the early summer signings, although of some promising youngsters were never going to keep us up and were destined to do a Norwich. Thats led to a breakdown with Cooper and possibly Murphy was in favour of getting rid for a more compliant manager after the Leicester game.

Anyhow I have always been on Team Cooper, as has been said he rules the roost now and hopefully will for years to come.

Sniff deserves his moment in the sun he stuck his neck out and remained consistent in his views on Dane although one or two doubted him.

New piece in the Athletic again today. Dont think it adds a lot, says Murphy was the fall guy along with Syrianos and Scott for early form. Says legal dispute settled months ago and that he always backed Cooper.
Charnley to get more influence as CEO, I remain concerned due to his time at Newcastle but dont doubt he knows how to run a football club.

Still missing pieces in there for me particularly around Coopers contract and subsequent upturn so definitely not the whole story which lets be hones we are unlikely to ever get.

Emphasis again on Coopers positive relationship with Giraldi which is what our PL survival ultimately hinges on.

If giraldi can do the on the pitch stuff, and someone else make sure people get paid, the stadium gets built and we have better and better commercial opportunities then it’s all thumbs up from me
