Yep. Having watched game twice, once from A block (no I didn't join in with idiotic chant) and then on TV, I am gobsmacked that people don't recognise how well he played across 90 minutes.

He is a proper midfielder who can do both sides of the game and works his nuts off too. He reads danger, makes good tackles (even if crap ref gave bizarre freekicks against him a few times) and he moves the ball quickly out of tight spaces keeping us in possession.

Outstanding off the ball 1st half, Outstanding on it for 2nd. What is it I'm missing after 2 viewings last night, please can someone enlighten me?

Is it because he doesn't do tricks or flicks or something?  Or maybe the one time he played it out of play down the line last night?

I'm flummoxed tbh.

I haven’t got the stats to disprove what you say and haven’t watched it back but notice that the BBC gave him a rating of 6.86. I’m assuming that this is a fact / stat based rating?

Only 0.01 better than Mangala and our 8th best rated player.

Outstanding, he was not.

Whilst I agree stats have some value, I prefer to go on what I see (twice) as stats can be misleading too. Eg. Giving away fouls affects your stats, but some fouls are clever and some are not even fouls but would be classed as good tackles with a better ref. A pea roller shot at keeper (Taiwo 2nd half) gets more stats credit than a brilliant volley hitting the bar (MGW).

I prefer to look at impact on the overall game and if they are doing their job well. For me he did his job outstandingly well.

Still flummoxed.

Im Flummoxed why you are flummoxed Zico. Read the posts.
All are positive about Freuler 2nd half who was the bloke we all thought we had signed.

Its the first half and the rest of his performances that are questioned. Yep I know he is excellent off the ball. I have yet to see a team win a football match by being excellent off the ball.

I think people expect him to be pinging 40 yard passes across the pitch. He is always showing for the ball, keeps things moving quickly and gets forward/plays forward when a pass is on. Out of possession he is quality as well. Organises, blocks passing lines and stops creative players, breaking up play a lot. Quality, under the radar player.

I agree with that. Freuler reminds me greatly of John McGovern at his best. He also was much criticised mostly by people who fail to understand just how team success is built. Of course John led us to our 2 greatest triumphs.

Do the stats actually back that up?

In my opinion Freuler played very well against Chelsea. He is a player who seems to do everything quite well. He is not like Yates who is excellent at some parts of the game and not great at others. I like them both.

Agree with that and I said the same thing to somebody yesterday. Some just can't see it though, they can only see the 40 yard cross field passes or the 25 yard screamers into the top corner. Much more to a great midfield player than that though.

I can guarantee one thing and that is that Freuler is absolutely adored by his team mates and the coaching staff.
Panic on the streets of Croydon, Derby, Sheffield, Leicestershire.

There’s a reason Mason Mount had nothing in the game, Remo did his job off the ball.
