Thoughts On The Next Nottingham Forest Manager

I honestly don't know where we go from here. Stick or twist?
Performances are shocking and there are zero signs of improvements anywhere on the pitch. I can't see where the next point is coming from.. that 11 points looks a long way away..

I'd like to know from the cooper in crowd the rationale behind your thinking. The contract situation is bizarre and last season he came in and made a bunch of strangers (not as many I get that) competitive from the offset. I get it's a harder league now but nothing is improving.

I'd consider myself in that crowd and it is difficult to defend some stuff but he's also the bloke who took us to the Premier League and for me deserves all the time he wants and all the backing available.

I want us to be a club with a clear ethos and calm plan like Brentford and Brighton and keeping Cooper around, and having everyone behind the scenes pulling towards the same goals would be a big demonstration of that but it seems we're never gonna get that with these owners, why did they even bother hiring Dane if they're gonna let EMs son do his job anyway? They've signed 50 players between 2 clubs in one transfer window and look like they'll be on their 5th manager of the season in the first week of October, it's completely basket case. You might get success with Olympiacos in a one horse race doing that but in the Premeir League you'll get chewed up and spat out and the whole world will see it. Spending £150m on players, building new stands etc. it's all well and good when it comes with a plan, at the moment it just looks like throwing money around because they can.

I want them to surprise everyone and back Cooper, what other manager is gonna get 22 new players looking like a Premier League ready team in this amount of time? Getting rid of Cooper now just hits the reset button on that, they aren't gonna magically gel just because a new bloke comes in.

Going off topic slightly but we will get back on topic again but I don't buy this team of strangers thing any more.

How long has the transfer window been closed now about 5 weeks? Plus the majority of our signings happened fairly early in the window in other words about 2 months ago. How are they strangers?

And another thing weren't last seasons team all strangers to Cooper when he walked through the door yet he got them performing from day one. Sorry but I don't buy that, it's just something that pundits use as a stick to beat us with.

Thought that bit might be controversial. No evidence at all but Sniff has hinted at Cooper picking political teams. If that is true It may be wrong of him but Naive to suggest it doesn’t work the other way around too with pressure to pick those with big fees and reputations. But that is premier league reality for you.
Just think our best hope is to let Cooper do his thing.

I am sad and will not rejoice in Steve Cooper leaving the club.

However I think we need a change to at least try and save our season and our place in the PL. I see no way back for Steve now after yesterday which lets be honest was an absolute shocker of a performance. Sadly I see no improvement at all even after breaks for the queens death and for international matches.

I don't think we should point the finger at any individual, mistakes have been made collectively.

Steve will go down in Forest history as the man who got us back in the PL after 23 years and for that he will always be very fondly remembered and every time he returns to the CG he will rightly get a standing ovation and the fans will chant his name.

To expand a bit I know for a fact that Pedro Martins has a big ambition to manage in the PL and he had it written into his contract at Olympiakos that if a PL team came knocking then he could leave.

Rafa Benitez and Laurent Blanc were both linked with Olympiakos very recently and I beleive that both actually spoke and had contact with the big man.

Postecoglou was in Athens in the summer and even met with some of our player's.

Like I said don't shoot the messenger but that is all I can share right now.

I would be very happy with Postecoglu, but I’m not sure he would leave Celtic at the moment. He seems a genuine, straight talking guy who would get this team organised. 

Would Pedro Martins want to work with Marinakis again? Was he decent for Oly? I only know he got sacked after they lost 4-0 in Europe. 

It’s a tricky choice, because as we all said, 17th is the goal for this season. Someone like Dyche or Benitez could achieve that, but not much more in future. Someone like Tedesco or Blanc might be more exciting, but they are more used to managing top class players rather than struggling with relegation (though Tedesco has worked his way up).

It was always going to be a difficult task with all of the incomings, a lot of the team last year knew each other really well so it was easier to create a team spirit. I can’t believe he has gone from hero to zero in a few games, I just think give him time, he will sort it. Can’t believe fans are turning on him so quickly, the same fans who vowed to give him as much time as he needed. From messiah to pariah in 8 weeks !

That is a very fair argument.
My point is that Cooper quickly built a team spirit but he relied largely on a small core of 14 or so that played out of their skins for him. Thats harder to do when he has 25 expensive egos all saying they should be starting.

However why would he want to leave a massive club like Celtic who are playing in the CL to move to a team who are rock bottom of the PL.

We have quickly forgotten it seems that Cooper was bought here with the intention of developing youth and building a squad with an ethos for the long term.

Clubs are a reflection of the strategy delivered from the top…until that changes I’m not sure the City Ground will have the same feel about it.”

It’s a really hard one. On the one hand, Celtic play in Europe and will probably win the league every year, but the global audience follows the Premier League far more closely. I am biased, but we are also an incredibly historic club, although we lack the domestic success of Celtic because the Scottish league has very little challenge. I really like Ange because he’s got the most out of a group of Celtic players who aren’t massive household names. His media interactions are fantastic too and he understands the views of “regular” fans. Having said that, I’d be very surprised if he came.
