Nottingham Forest - Tottenham

I'd rather watch us all season than Spurs.

We played well, a bit of shooting practice need. 17 shoots and only 1 on target. Lingard/MGW/Johnson teamed up well, but needed a focal point in the box.

Worrall Cook and Mckenna up against Kane, Richarlison and Son. Feel confident everyone?

They did ok against Martinelli, Saka, Odegaard and Nketiah last year

I don't get the way so many write off Cook. I've seen lots of "experts" from our fan base advocating a back 4 without him or a back 3 where Biancone replaces him.

They must be watching a different game to me. His reading of the game and Premiership experience could be invaluable. He will have come up against Kane and Son before, probably Richarlison too.

Is it an age thing? He has barely put a foot wrong since we signed him. For those saying he lacks pace the first few yards are in your head if you're smart-which Cook is.

Tbh It's not Cook that I'm nervous about at the back currently against this pacey World class attack. The midfield need to cut off the supply at source too.

It is more the collective lack of pace of those 3 Zico. Nothing wrong with Cook but the first 3 yards in your head works well in the Championship, in the PL everyone thinks 3 yards quicker and most are physically quick too.
Agree about the midfield cutting off the supply. Everyone is lauding Mangala and OBrien, they may well  be promising but the fact remains we have had more chances created against us than any other team after 3 games.
Lets see how today goes.

Thing is no CB in Premiership can live with Son if service is right. Remember them humiliating Scousers with Van Dycke playing. The Fullbacks have an important job to do on the cover too.
I have NO doubt Cooper has a game plan that can work if carried out well.

Hate to say I told you so

That article is so negative. How about the fact that Son did nothing all game and was largely kept under lock and key and then unhappily subbed. The 2nd goal came after we were over committed chasing the game, nothing to do with Worrall or anyone's lack for pace.

I'd actually argue we defended ok for the most part. It's surely the lack of shots on target and clear cut chances despite dominating the ball that was the issue?

I can't imagine Spurs came into the game to sit off as much as that. They were lucky we weren't better with it in their penalty area. Classic lazy journalism using the result of a game without taking into context what actually happened. If we score early and get ahead, they'd have been asking why spurs were letting us dominate.

No you don't.

Aside from his sneaky handball Cook was very good. The 1st goal was a cracking tackle that hit OBrien and deflected in their favour  leaving Cook on the ground. The collective lack of pace did leave us vulnerable at times.

Ultimately though, England's record goal scorer was difference between sides.

Highlights the needs of :

More attacking LWB.........we have that in Richards and all being well Lodl now.

Someone to run at them - MGW tried, but a game like that against a solid defence like that.......needs someone like Davies who we dont have now.

Pace at the back...........we need a pacey CB. Says it all when McKenna is the fastest........

Good performance. We seemed to lose our attacking ability when Lingard came off. We will get there.......time and patience needed and by Christmas we will be very hard to beat, home and away.

Too many stray passes as well, something we have to stop. Too much aimless long balls........we dont have Davies and Awoniyi was on then bench, so no idea why they are hitting long balls to a small MGW............poor decisions.

Team News.........

Just realised that team yesterday was an all British starting eleven.

When did that last happen in the PL?

My thoughts exactly ^^

I agree on all those points.

Jamie Carraghar was right. For most of the game we were the better team between penalty areas but Tottenham won the game because of their superiority in those areas. Encouraging and a little bit concerning. I can now see why Maupay was linked. We will need to find a variety of ways of scoring. Need to improve set pieces. Ryan Yates gets into the box and gets chances. If he could notch his finishing up a further notch that would help. Need to translate that good play yesterday into more chances and goals. Sounds easy but clearly it’s not.

Positives
Atmosphere at the CG is the best its ever been, loving it, we need to keep it that way.
Passing play and movement of the front 3 was a joy to watch
Controlled large parts of the game, won back countless balls in midfield
Gibbs White is quality
So is Henderson
Brennan clearing out Richarlison
We are a work in progress and are looking better each game

Negatives
Lack of killer touch and never a created clear cut chance
Set pieces poor again, we dont really have someone to take them (Scarpa?)
Pace of the back 3 overall (not just digging out Cook) Not impressed with Kouyate’s brief appearance
Again opposition created more chances.
Our front 3 all a bit samey, no-one to change things up?
