My point earlier that this isn’t down to BJ dictating terms but his dad who knows a bit about the pitfalls of being a player and needing to maximise his earnings. I don’t like it and from a fan point of view agree with all that has been said regarding holding the club to ransom. However it works both ways- I wonder what Alvin Appiahs family think?
If it was my son I’m not sure I would be rushing to sign a contract that limited his next move.
Hope it gets sorted one way or another and we see BJ for a few seasons help spearhead an assault on the premiership. Realistically I think we just need to enjoy watching him whilst we have him…

I do understand you point about the Johnsons having to look after their own interests. Signing the contract will only limit their options for the length of the contract.

Both parties need to get round the table as a new contract can be beneficial to both.
BJ gets more money as soon as he signs. Forest get protection that asset isn't going to leave on the cheap.

Can they think slightly outside the box, so that the release clause goes up a set amount with appearances/goals/assists etc.

The Johnsons have no point whatsoever.

Brennan has been the beneficiary of top class development afforded to him by the Academy.

The very same Academy which is funded by the sale of promising young talent which came before him; his sale, when it comes, will fund the players who are just entering the development pipeline.

This needs to be called out for what it is, naked greed.

Brennan will be set for life if he is sold for 8m or 12m or whatever; the club should not cave in to his demands.

If he has not signed a new deal by the end of the year, sell him in January.

I agree that if a new contract isn't signed then he must be sold. 
He is growing as a player, currently not ready for Premier League, so his value will increase. If we do sell we need to get a sell on fee as his next move will probably be the big one. 

Although I can see him becoming the next Oli Burke if he leaves us too early.

Our best hope of keeping Brennan is if he and his father buy into the Steve Cooper project. He will be guaranteed playing time in an team with PL ambitions and a head coach that is well known for developing young talent. It could actually be a match made in heaven. If he should go to the PL the alternative could very quickly be that he sits on the bench and gets a few minutes here and there. It could be a big gamble for young Brennan.

The problem is they will only sign with a release clause at around 8m.

No chance are we going to to that as we will get offers of 12m in Jan.

He definitely wants his cake and to eat it. I dont want to go in hard on the lad but bloody hell, what's he done to earn the right to dictate terms like that?

Looks like our best return will be to get an auction going in Janauary and sell him on 31st to the higest bidder.

The problem with selling him on 31 January is we have little or no time to react and secure adequate replacements. 

If we sell Johnson on 31 January and Zinc returns to Watford we will be in trouble unless there is some quality already lined up. 

We could have players lined up on the premise that if Johnson leaves they will come in but it begs the question as to how good they truly are if they are able to wait until that time and no one else comes in with a competitive/better offer.

Why's Zinc going to return to Watford? 

And I'm sure the club are already making plans for the sale of Brennan if it does look like he isn't going to sign the new deal.

He may well do, I would be surprised if Ranieri doesn't want to have a look at him.

We may well be making plans should BJ be sold but if we don't sell until 31 January then Plan A, B or C may no longer be available. It's a terrible strategy and one that should be avoided at all costs, otherwise we could end up with another Da Costa in his place.

Agreed. Im sure Brennan is a different character to Oli Burke but there is a lesson in his career path about taking the big move too early.

I’d be interested to know the correlation against where those teams sit in the league compared to how late in the window they do their business though.
