Brennan Johnson

SL, I would keep him until the Summer if he does not sign a new contract, small chance of going up with BJ in the side, worth million to the club. Also because of age we would get reasonable compo and BJ would not be going to a big club, every chance he would pass us by with his new club going down and Forest on the up and into the Premier!

Yep, sign the bloody contract Bren!

The problem is they will only sign with a release clause at around 8m.

No chance are we going to to that as we will get offers of 12m in Jan.

He definitely wants his cake and to eat it. I dont want to go in hard on the lad but bloody hell, what's he done to earn the right to dictate terms like that?

Looks like our best return will be to get an auction going in Janauary and sell him on 31st to the higest bidder.

I wouldn’t be too harsh on the lad himself. All he actually wants at the moment is to play for his boyhood club and do well for himself and the club.
His dad however is looking out for his sons interests and as a professional himself who had a bad injury he knows only too well this is a short career. If it was my son, I’d be the same…

Bit of rose tinted there Ozzy. It appears he has all the talent in the world and is playing for a club that has a good track record of developing outstanding talent and then selling up to the premier league. Other Forest youngsters have signed decent first contracts and left the club for bigger and better things later on. Why does he feel he's any different? How can a 20 year old footballer who's only played a few games in the 2nd tier suddenly feel he's able to dictate release terms to a grand old football club who's developed him and given him his chance? Does he think he can just walk away as and when it suits him and pocket the transfer fee himself? Looks like that to me.

This.

If he hasn't signed a deal that suits the club by Jan then get him sold. It's got a touch of the holding the club to ransom about it.

We've a god track record of getting good fees for our homegrown talent and why shouldn't this be any different. If he's as good as his dad thinks then what's the problem apart from being greedy with signing on fee?

The problem with selling him on 31 January is we have little or no time to react and secure adequate replacements.

If we sell Johnson on 31 January and Zinc returns to Watford we will be in trouble unless there is some quality already lined up.

We could have players lined up on the premise that if Johnson leaves they will come in but it begs the question as to how good they truly are if they are able to wait until that time and no one else comes in with a competitive/better offer.

Why's Zinc going to return to Watford?

And I'm sure the club are already making plans for the sale of Brennan if it does look like he isn't going to sign the new deal.

So the club could lose out on £4 million? Why 'only' at £8 million? Do they want to move on out of Forest at the earliest opportunity? Is it a grudge with the current Board? Owners? Does Johnno's recent Twitter words re: The Board betray his feelings on this matter? I guess he's looking out for his son. But all graduates move on. Brennan could this Jan'. If a club comes in with a £12 million offer? I suspect he'd be gone. I'm guessing Brentford's 4-6 million last Summer wasn't enough.

This January is going to be very interesting going into the last year of the contract.  They'll have no choice but to sell before his value collapses?

Be great if we can get £12 million.  Set Forest up nicely for the Summer and phase '3' of rebuilding the squad under the new modus.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, what's the problem if BJ leaves for a very large fee in Jan, better and more talented players have past through our gates in the past, Forest will move as a club, we always do!

That's exactly what it is, all well and good DJ playing the big Forest fan but then wanting a release fee put into his contract that's lower than the club want so his son can leave at a whim isn't in our best interests.

The reason no deal has been signed is all about the fee they want included, we know we have a potential player but they want that so its been a sticking point.
