Yeah kind of. ;)
We seem to come at it from different angles but agree on what needs to happen this season. Im urging patience but accept we do look weak at present. One of the things people blamed last year was the lack of a good preseason but its hard to do that if the squad isnt complete.
A bit of a catch 22 but Im confident we will make a better fist of it than last year.

I've switched it to a different thread, I suppose aside from getting the first team players in that we need (RL/LB/S) is how much depth do we need to add and who do we just stick with.
I'm pretty confident but I think this window may end up looking a bit chaotic on the face of it.

Excellent interview with him on the Athletic and very refreshing to read.
Working with CH and they share a philosophy. Global transfer business is slow, hoping for movement in next few weeks. May have to be some outgoings to free up wage bill. Hoping for 8-9 arrivals according to Tails.
To give some balance to what is written on the transfer thread, he speaks to Mr Vrentzos 2-3 times every day and is very complementary about him.

We brought in a new structure to try to break the repetitive cycle of failure we have been in for the last 10 years.
Must get promoted this season.
Sign a load of random players
Sell one of the academy to pay for it
Sack the manager when it doesnt work
Bring in a new guy who wants his own players
The idea is that Murphy, Brass, Syrianos and Brazil build a Forest identity and style that can continue whoever happens to be manager. That will take some time to develop.
Yet Murphy apart the rest of that team were in place at the end of last season and I cannot remember a season when the squad has looked so badly under prepared. Surely we need to go with the new plan, for heavens sake just having a plan is a welcome change but these guys do need to start delivering.

The plan will only work if we accept the short term pain for the long term gain.
Ie we accept the squad is unfinished but it's difficult to find good players. I thought most people were happy to write this season off as prep for next season anyway. That went out the window after one game!

I suppose it's more the frustration of how the loss came yesterday rather than the loss itself, I'd even argue that was expected given the lack of recruitment, injuries and illness in the squad but to lose a game in the last minute of stoppage time yet again and on the first game of the season is a bitter pill to swallow.
Hughton's recent run of form hasn't been good at all in fact the results are comparable to Sabri's last 15 games in charge.

Agreed Wassy.
Interestingly, out of 43 users on this forum that made a prediction in the Predictions League, 15 of them went for a home win!

Agree with Tricky agreeing with Wassy.

It's relatively early days.
The lack of signings going into the new season is unfortunate. And the LB issue reared its head in the result. The manager can only play what he's got. Hughton mentioned signings in the post match. What do you do if you are down 2 CHs, one of which has to go off in the match? Or you lose your main striker?
Nothing Forest could do about the two cancelled games. And they're trying for players to bring in. But. 'Fees' by the sounds of it.
Up until that point they were better prepared in many ways than last season. (Forest didn't started late on their pre-season last year and it went very poorly with the Forest players seeming unfit.). They actually won pre-season games and were building some momentum. Forest have installed 12 Academy players into the 1st team squad. 4 starting yesterday. 2 on the bench. I think that's a significant shift and departure from last season.
Building a brand takes time. It took Brentford ten years. But they were consistent. (Forest have chopped and changed with predictable consequences over the last 20 years.). Even Coventry have stuck at what they've been doing for longer than Forest and you could see in the way they played 2nd half.
I hope we get the players in over the next month. Because yesterday's 1st half was a promising signal of Forest's intention going forwards. The Brennan Lyle combo goal was excellent and Yates and Colback were solid in CM. And SoH very promising at CH. Gabriel didn't do much wrong. (The 2nd half shows you can't go into a Championship season needing 7 more players in. As soon as your 2nd striker goes off. You're in trouble. Or you have an ageing LB for a 'young man's' position. But we are trying to land quality targets.)
Enjoyed your post.

I hope at the end of the window we are a more progressive team with more quality on the ball to prevent yesterdays second half capitulation. We had nobody in the centre of the pitch that could put there foot on the ball to relieve the pressure. Yates and Colback cannot be a regular thing come the end of August. That combo is not a combo we will do well with, otherwise more struggles like we saw yesterday will be witnessed week in week out.
It has to be 433 at the end of the window.

Zinkernackel played in the centre midfield number 8 spot for Watford last year - due to injuries but was impressive enough and got assists and goals. They did play 442 diamond though.

I don’t think that will happen with Hughton being here….a leopard never changes it’s spots.
