No they are good quality players, we have a headless chicken that some on here think is the next Messi, you couldn't make it up.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, mine is that I don't rate him and I also don't think that he is good enough.

Rice got 2 goals, 1 assist last season, Phillips the same. Yates also got 2 goals 2 assists. By your logic, either they're all shit, or you're rating the other two based on some other measure which you're clearly not applying to Yates. Funnily enough if he was slightly better at heading he'd have got 5 goals or so and would've looked healthier on these metrics.

For the record I think he's still not that great. He still gives it away too much for the difficulty of pass he's being asked to make and he seems to end up in some strange positions sometimes. Maybe over eager? Not sure, hopefully he irons out those faults as I feel like they are correctable.

Its a decent debate and I can understand the not good enough argument but I wanted to pick up on this point. I totally agree I look on him more favourably but its not because he is from the academy, its because he is one of us. He has been brought up here as a Forest fan he lives and breathes Forest. So yes if I had a choice between watching Yates bust a gut for 90 minutes even if he has a mare and watching some 32 year old overpaid journeyman who doesnt give a xxxx stroll around then you know which I will choose.

Worth pointing out too that a couple of years ago quite a few on here wanted to move on Worrall because he is a “bang average Championship defender who can easily be replaced”. You know what, I think he is a bang average Championship defender but the reason he cant be replaced and why he is wanted by PL teams is his well above average determination, attitude and leadership. Exactly what Yates has too.

Many said similar about Wes Morgan too

Completely disagree with you about Worrall being a bang average championship defender, I actually think he’s better than that and should be captain of this football club. I certainly didn’t want him to move a few season back.

I don’t get this about Yates or any player for that matter that if they’re a Forest fan it means he’s one of us, I don’t care if they grew up a sheep fan if they’re good enough and want to play for us then that’s fine by me.

I’m afraid at this level if you actually want to achieve things then you need to be able to play football at a fairly decent level, sadly above average determination, good attitude & leadership won’t get you very far.

All the managers and coaches that Yates has played under seem to think that he can play football none more so than Roy keane but one or two on here seem to think that he can't.

Who should we believe I wonder

Or perhaps they have to play him because they seem to think that he is the best of a bad lot.

Yates has kept out the likes of Yacob, Sow and Colback which is no bad going. Only Watson seemed to get the nod ahead of Yates.

I am just adding to the debate, for the record Yates is far from my favourite player.

I'm all for people having different opinions and all of that but when facts are ignored and arguments like "he only passes sideways or backwards" or "he gives away needless free kicks" are used then it's getting kind of boring for me. So please back your arguments up with some facts and let's have a proper discussion.

How about he simply isn't good enough.
