Not sure Chris Hughtons play that way, certainly didnt this year.

Agree Widdow but I guess that it also depends on which part of the game you are looking at.

It wasn't so much the Liverpool way of playing I was referring to but more the general observation that the key for their success was how they acted as a team when not having the ball. How the front 3 (Mane, Firmino and Salah) managed to occupy 6 opponents when defending. According to Pep Lijnders that is what separates the really good players from the good ones.

My take on that is that it isn't enough to be good on the ball you have to be prepared to do the hard defensive work as well. Carvs springs to mind here - great on the ball but probably not committed enough defensively. Successful teams cannot carry one or two players anymore.

That’ll be because of the manager. I heard them discuss next season on Talk Sport and the consensus was that with Hughton at the helm we’d be up there.

Maybe we were 4th - I just looked and we're 5th favourite - but more importantly it doesn't include anyone in the play-offs. So we wouldn't be 4th or 5th once the teams in the play-offs who don't go up are included.

In any case, we're a club with a decent squad and expected significant financial backing from the owner, that will all be included in estimating odds. You could just as much argue it is because we have a good squad as a good manager, but in reality you shouldn't read much into it at all.

It's not very often that the bookies are wrong though. Hughton is a factor of that there is no doubt not in my mind anyway. Put it this way we wouldn't be fourth favourites if we didn't have a manager at this moment in time.

Our wage bill isn’t top 6. While ever FFP is in place the club’s income won’t be top 6. For a club of average means like Forest to be favourites for top 6 other factors than squad quality and finances must be seen as giving us an advantage above and beyond what’s expected. It may also be that we are seen as well run and stable, but having a manager who tends to finish in the top 6 is the stand out factor imo.

So when is Hughton meeting the owner in Athens?

Forget that you think you're in some sort of argument about the manager - aside from your subjective claim I was correcting the factual / contextual distortions.

We are 5th favourite on SkyBet and that doesn't include any of the current play-off teams => Brentford, Swansea & Bournemouth would all likely be shorter odds than us if they don't go up, and at least 2 of them won't. So probably 7th or 8th favourites ie we are not favourites for top 6.

Far too early to be saying who the favourites are etc. We don't even know which teams are going to be in the league yet mind about which teams have the better squads after the summer transfer business.

A bookmaker puts us in the pack. Stoke 16/1, Forest 18/1, Cardiff, Boro and Reading at 20. Even Birmingham are only 25/1.

The positive as I said in another thread is less parachute payments money to compete with than other years, and also high natural revenue clubs like Villa and Leeds having left already. Could be a better opportunity than most years to at reach the play-offs.

For me the number one positive going into next season is having Hughton. If I am proved wrong I'll gladly admit that I was wrong.

I'm with you Sniff. Over these last few weeks I've spent a lot of time entertaining myself by reading the sheep's forum. As an outsider looking in, you can see the the utter garbage some of their posters post.  If they were reading this forum they be thinking we're utter nutcases in questioning the abilities of CH.

He's almost universally respected within the game. If we sacked him now we'd be derided by every pro, ex-pro and pundit around.
