That was not my opinion, I felt the transfers were necessary and was hopeful about the signings of Taylor and Mckenna. However was painfully aware of the loss of our two best players and the fact that we overacheived the season before.

We needed an overhaul last summer to improve however it failed. So now we're in the same boat again, at least we have Johnson and mighten to add to the mix

I'm pretty sure it was.

I don't think we needed an overhaul. 4/5 decent signings in a few positions, whilst adding a bit of depth up front would've sufficed. Instead we decided to rip it up & start again during the shortest post/pre-season ever.

I've been pretty consistent with my opinions on the transfer situation as I'm sure SM can testify to that  :D

So, based on your logic, we could only sign 4 players. Lets pick a mixture of the good and bad ones as you can't assume we'd have got them all right given our low hit rate on signings, so McKenna, Arter, Soh and Taylor.

Grabban, Worrall, Sow are out injured.

So this leaves us with Jenkinson RB, no backup aside from academy. Midfield we'd have Yates (when fit) in CM and that's it as far as I can tell. We'd have Lolley and Ameobi on wing, oh wait both got injured during the season, and that was with less games.

So we have a shit RB, no backups at all, no central midfielders, only two wingers plus Mighten and only two strikers (which is pretty much what we had anyway).

I know this is all hypothetical, the point is we needed bodies to fill the gaps of injuries and players leaving which in most case we had no choice. So at that point the list of signings looked hopeful although as I've said for a while we were pretty lucky under Sabri to finish as high as we did so losing. Lots of tight wins and in xG terms we were midtable. Therefore losing our best two players plus the next best few all to injury did not leave us in a strong position.

How about we rank our team under Sabri:

1. Cash (sold)
2. Watson (unwilling to sign new deal)
3. Worrall (long term injury)
4. Grabban (long term injury and out of form)
5. Lolley (carrying injury from previous year)
6. Silva (sold)

Not sure how people expected us to do well this year based on this.

Ive had a wry smile on my face reading some of the last few posts Wassy!

Despite my many rants about how poor and unnecessary last summer was I still thought that we had assembled a group with a bit of quality overall. That is my point about Hughton, despite the problems he has faced you have listed above I hoped he would have still got more out of the players that were available. Every manager has to work with injuries and loss of form, Even if results took some time to improve I was expecting us to look a bit better. I dont agree we overachieved last season either, the league table doesnt lie and some of the performances from last season were night and day to what we have watched this season.

That said I still hope CH is the right man for the job and with a proper window and preseason we will be transformed. It is a big task to turn the ship around though, like you my biggest wish is he gets the whole season and that we are not yet again starting over half way through.

Another observation, I watched Chelsea vs Real last night. I could help thinking there were some similarities between the team we assembled and Real in terms of what happens when you have an ageing squad.
You knew they had some quality but they were run ragged by a younger team who just wanted it more, you could tell within 10 mins that Chelsea would win comfortably just as we knew Forest were in for a struggle after the opening games this season.
We need a big clear out this summer, so do Real, wonder if they would loan us Benzema and Kroos?

Will CH improve is 30% win rate against Preston on Saturday??

When was the last time Nottingham Forest brought in a quality striker, Widdow?

And how much did they pay for him?

He hasn't even got bloody started yet!

Give him a full pre season and a summer transfer window, you might be pleasantly surprised...

i just wanted to see more, i would of taken differant ideas and tactical approaches not working, i'm not wrist slashing just very bored and disappointed in what the 40 games we have witnessed

i guess i've concluded that the team and squad and infrastructure were equipped for far more than this season delivered

i think Knocky, Lolley, Grabban, Cafu, Krov, Sammy, Alex and others didn't score more goals because most of the options were behind them, many of the players can produce outstanding quality but not for 90 minutes, the squad was bigger than average but poorly utilised, maybe over utilising some players could of contributed to injuries, poor, poor, really poor management, i am sorry, little to no ambition to win games

but yes CH did have a couple of outstanding seasons at Brighton but he must of been in a far better environment and mentality, based on the last 40 games he doesn't get the gig, but will he say what he thinks needs to improve, not really, hence, running on empty

Who was over utilised that got injured sorry? Since CH was involved I can only think of Ameobi really that played regularly then got injured and even then he didn't play every game?

Yeah it is, but surely he can get the players to perform well in one end of season game, he has only won twice in the last 13, lets not make it 14, do they have pride?

And accepting mediocre results, is why CH is being given another season.

Thank god we beat bottom of table Wycombe twice, otherwise we would also be in that last day relegation battle.

Grabban, at £6m

Well past is sell by date now, club should have been proactive and sold last summer. You know they couldve bought Toney for just £5m last year, but clubs transfer strategy is bad (dont listen to me), and Hughton thought Murray was the answer in Janaury, mind you his 2 goals against Wycombe probably helped to save us this season, so guess he was right.

We all seem to forget, Hughton had the end of the summer window to bring in a striker, but didnt, he only brought in Knockeart, and declared he was happy with his squad after the window closed.

I'm pretty sure Preston will be thinking the same thing too, easier said than done.

He's being given another season because of his impressive CV and the fact that he's had a decent amount of time to judge the squad as well as actively start the transfer process for this summer already.

We also beat teams higher than us, do those results not count either?
