We are in extremely safe hands with CH.

We won’t ever get a manager who will give us a better chance of putting the foundations in place to give us a chance of promotion.

Nothing is guaranteed, but I’m pretty confident come next season we will have a team who is operating in the top half of the table and in contention.

Agree it will not be pretty or exciting, will not be edge of the seat football but he will get us challenging.

CH seems to be recruiting technical players. I take it the reason is that he wants to have a team that can pass it and play on the ground. If CH is allowed to finalize his Forest project then I believe we will see a team that can also play pretty and be exciting in addition to be rock solid in defense. But I guess it is dependent on what you classify as "pretty and exciting".

I am sure that if CH brings in 3 or 4 more new players of his choice and the squad gets a full pre-season then we will see a different Forest next season both in terms of quality of play and in league position.

What CH is trying to achieve is a work in progress.

When I started supporting Forest they had some principles, on how to play and how to behave. I liked both of them. Neutrals liked us. I was proud to support us.

Watching us now is embarrassing, and it saddens me that the club is gaining a reputation for being dour and negative. For me it is far worse to watch us play like we do now than to approach matches trying to win but (also) with limited success.

I haven’t posted for a while because I don’t want to be accused of being negative. I understand the arguments people make, saying we were in free-fall and of building a foundation, but I don’t buy it and for me there is simply no excuse for playing the way we are playing.

Our squad is comfortably better than the clubs around us, the likes of Derby, Rotherham, Coventry, Wycombe, Wednesday, QPR, Birmingham. They would love to swap their squads for ours.

Yet there is a narrative that we need to play this way to avoid relegation. I do not believe it. We were never going down.

To compound the playing style, in a season where we are neither going up nor down, it should be about building for next season. Yet our two teenage prospects watch from the bench while a 37 year-old loanee now leads our attack. It’s a good job there are no crowds allowed.

It makes me sad and it makes me angry to see us approach the game like we do, to the point where I feel the need to take a break from watching them too. I can only hope that the club employs a manager who understands the modern game and can have us showing ambition and playing entertaining football sooner rather than later.

All that evidence they've given so far this season. This is the attitude I just don't get. Why is the first reaction to assume the team is underachieving when not doing very well. I've seen no evidence that we are better than any of those sides apart from the last few games, since we improved the team.

We overachieved last year and now we're maybe slightly below where we should be on paper. We've got no divine right to challenge higher up the league. I can understand not likely the negative style of football, sure.

Given after 8 points from 12 we're only 5 above drop zone and with games in hand still to say we were never going down is ridiculous. We are still well in the hunt for relegation.

I don't think that's relevant to me, I wasn't around 40 years ago. The latter part of the Clough reign was my beginning in football. I was spoilt even then in the late 80's, but 20 years out of the top division and I still bought my season ticket. I have some hope each year, but I've learnt better than to expect!

Results wise my expectation on an ongoing basis is that Hughton won't get the best out of his squads because he is too conservative and inflexible. But it goes beyond just a difference in tactics to something more fundamental, and that is how to approach the game. We are now so negative it crosses the line for me. Does / should the club not have a philosophy or identity? This can't be it.

I can assure you I'm no fickle fan - if I'm taking a break, thousands of others will be doing the same.

No and don't don't I was trying to belittle you or anything, I genuinely am interested as to why people think we have a good squad, as I've seen no statistical evidence or physical evidence of us having a decent side. Just an average, mid-table team.

I get your point about style though, I really wanted ex Wednesday manager Carvalhal, just because his teams played grossly attacking football. I definitely agree it would be more fun to have a thrilling attacking team and finish 12th than have a boring negative team and finish 10th. Even getting promoted under CH and getting battered every week in prem wouldn't necessarily be better really. 

I started following in the mid 90s so I've broadly known championship football. I would just take anything that's more interesting than finishing repeatedly mid table. Realistically the owners are unlikely to sacrifice the chances of success for playing better football so therefore pragmatically a manager like CH is going to be our best option.

I do think our team isnt great though and that's my main point. Fans won't be happy unless we're near the top but maybe could do with appreciating how hard that will be to achieve and readjust expectations based on that

i hope CH succeeds but success for me involves goals and fun, i really hope that 0.0 will be a thing of the past, i'd prefer 3.3 if anything, it might go beyond 'fun' and 'goals' i guess i have psychological issues but it's about high's and low's, travesties, smash and grabs, but the basic philosophy of more goals = more fun theory, i'd love to go upto Preston or down to Bournemouth but for a '0.0' ? I'm not sure i'd go, prefer to get thrashed out of sight trying to win, i'm ok with against the odds and needing heroes type stuff, i dunno, but 1.0 and 0.0 .. no thanks

He's our very own Chris Bob the Builderl Hughton.

I'm enjoying the slow but steady progress.  From a manager who knows what he is doing.

Compact.  Tough to beat.  Clean sheets.  You're always in the game and we nearly nicked it v Bournemouth.

If we'd started the season under this current form we'd be top 6.

As one that has been sceptical of CH to say the least, this week I have been impressed with our performance levels and the intent shown. If this is what he is building towards then we could have a very good season next year. Really hope we can get James Garner back, he has made a big difference in the centre of the pitch, and Cafu in the DM role has enabled us to control the ball better and dictate the play more.

Nice to see someone showing contrition. Perhaps this is a good example that patience and time are really important for managers and that we should give time for their methods to take effect.

everyone seems to be giving there all, all in positions that they understand and if anything are showing they can thrive in, there's quite a few 'leaders' whether organisational, pure fight and/or willing to make things happen

i like getting the whole squad involved, because of fixture pile up and also building for next season and ultimately to bring on as many of our own players as we can, but Chris Hughton is safe when it comes to getting us clear from the bottom which i appreciate is the priority

Chris Hughton in a conservative way is probably building better and stronger and can take full credit for all the above

The progress now doesn't have to be astonishing or radical, it's moving forward nicely, maybe a better situation to build for next season than many teams who have seemingly shot there bolt and becoming unsettled

We could be the league leaders in building stability and making progress at the same time
