What Is The Clubs Transfer Strategy
I would abandon any thoughts of strengthening the squad.

Try to offload some that Hughton doesn’t fancy.

Clear the decks.

Save some cash.

Accept that survival is our only objective - we still have more than enough talent already at NG2.

Leave Johnson at Lincoln to further his education - unless of course Hughton would play him ( unlikely ).

Start planning now for the Summer window & next season.

None of the above will happen - Vrentzos, Modesto et al will continue to throw money ( probably at the wrong players ) & fans’ impatience wouldn’t allow for prudent planning.

If I was recruiting I would aim for 23 players in total 2 for each position and 3 goalies made up of experience youth and a few PL loans
And I would plan to do this on a 1 in 1 out basis hopefully only sign ones in that can improve the first 11
Come on you mighty Reds

The last bit is what I was getting at, most fans wouldn't support the do nothing approach. I agree though I dont see much else, aside from a few loans to help us away from the drop zone.

We'll only offload players through the mates rates route.

Whilst this is clearly preferable, needs realism. Whats our squad now? 30 odd? We won't be able to get rid of anyone unless they are out of contract or are named Joe Worrall. So on that basis no new signings whatsoever, which is fine, can't see us doing that mind

We need something more up front, this wasn't properly addressed in the Summer and those responsible failed on that aspect, completely and utterly. It was something that was largely ignored last January when it was evident we needed something then too.

We don't need a Guerrero or a Mir, we need quality, someone who can justify Grabban being on the bench.

If funding is an issue then Olympiacos need to pay us £8m for Lolley so Marinakis and Co can show us that they are serious about us moving forward and have something to contribute rather than using our supply line of young talent to support their profligacy and mismanagement.

For me this attitude is exactly why the owners can't win. Essentially asking them to spend £10m plus on a striker, probably from Peterborough. Surely given the massive losses we made pre pandemic we can't afford that kind of fee regardless of who's paying for it.

Particularly after they blew so much on wages etc for Arter for example.

Asking them to essentially cheat FFP by overpaying for someone from Olympiacos is not really fair. Plus likely to league wouldn't let you keep the revenue in that scenario for FFP anyway if they thought it was way above market value. I feel like we've clearly pushed this source of FFP dodging to the limit already

The owners win when we win. We win when the owners get it right.

I’m not asking for £10m. Not sure where that figure has come from. However if we didn’t spunk £13m(ish) of the Cash money on trash then they wouldn’t need to do it.

70ish signings since they’ve come in.

Fair has nothing to do with it. We play within the rules, simple as that. Lolley looks like he could do with a good break in Greece

Thats about how much Toney went for which I imagine is what you're hinting at. Either way that's how much it would cost to sign a striker that would be better than Grabban.

Selling Lolley for 8m would not be within the rules and as I said I think the league wouldn't let us count it for FFP. Given we already push this to the limit with sneaky 1m signings here and there, I'm not sure we want to draw too much attention to it

Regardless of who or how much we won’t be competing for the top spots with the likes of Mir or Guerrero.

There’s nothing preventing us from selling (for example) Lolley to Olympiacos. I’m pretty sure that any transactions between the two are under scrutiny anyway.

Anyway it doesn’t matter. There will be no substantial cash injection unless the cupboard runs bare of young sellable talent.

Lolley for 7-8m could be argued is about right...12-18 months ago his value would have been 10-15m

Not if it's the only major transfer in the league!

If Benrahma can go for about £25M a couple of months ago then why not?!
