I wonder if Hodge was referring to Lolley

Arter, Christie, Freeman, Colback (who I rate but still fits the bill), you could even put knockeart into that category although probably a bit harsh.

I mean I thought these were predominantly good signings but I'm not a scout. The reviews on Arter and Christie from Fulham fans were ominous though.

As I've said before I thought it was still progress in this window in terms of strategy. Mckenna and Soh were along the lines most want to see and at least they focused on championship experience this time round so progress. If the goal was to get promotion this season, due to the failings of previous windows and the loss of cash/Watson, this was the best they could do.

However, acknowledging that a midtable finish is fine would be a better strategy IMO and allow a chance to build.

Christie and Freeman are only 28 though, hardly journeymen. Arter is 30 but also wouldn't call him a journeyman either just yet.

I would consider a journeyman as an average player that gets bounced around a lot without excelling and who's in the latter stages of their career.

I think all of the above fit this bill based on recent history.

On paper I think Vrentzos and Co signed some good players in the summer and 99% of the members on here agreed at the time.

I really can't put my finger on what has gone wrong but in my opinion it's not fair or correct to put all the blame on EM and Vrentzos.

Freeman has ripped up the Championship in the past, Knockaert has ripped up the Championship in the past, Taylor has ripped up the Championship in the past, Colback should be more than good enough at this level as should Christie. These players don't just become poor players overnight and neither do players who were already here like Lolley, Figs, Ameobi and Grabban etc.

There is more to it than blaming EM and Vrentzos in my view.

You make a fair point Sniff - and I’m sure Hughton must be tearing his hair out in frustration.
There were though a number of signings who - even when they were made - left me underwhelmed. These included:

Arter
Christie
Blackett
Cafu
Bachirou
Diallo

Totally agree with that Sniff, it seems we are cursed with players and have been for some time, as soon as they put on the garibaldi they turn to s**t! Everyone seems to lose a yard of pace too.

We seem so much slower than every team we come up against.

This cannot just be levelled at the owner for sure. Questions of the players have to be asked here, is our environment that we are creating just toxic and not enjoyable to be part of? So the minute anyone turns up we depress them and they lose all confidence?

Really struggling for answers at the minute.

Timing- freeman / knockeart / McKenna / Taylor in January would have been just what we needed...

Agreed TPL. However  4 of the players you have mentioned above aren't playing which I know in itself tells a story but if they aren't playing then in my opinion they can't be blamed for our poor performances and form.

No Sniff but add the fragility at full back & the dilemma re how to replace Watson & it goes along way to explain our defensive issues. Sort them and our wingers may grow in confidence etc etc

Arter and Christie in particular replacing our two best players have been huge disappointments
