The championship as a whole is looking like a lot of clubs are just skint so are holding onto what they've got, unless silly money comes in. So the season will be pretty much as you were with only a few clubs changing positions because of luck and coaches getting something extra out of the players from last season.
It really is going to be the season of who coaches the best.

What makes you say that?

Unless our Company Accounts are a complete work of fiction we are in a very good position financially; in fact, I would go as far as saying the accounts are in the best state they have been in this century, if not, they are very close to being.

I think what we will get now is managers having to justify spending rather than taking a scatter gun approach; that can only be good.

We will spend money in the market in the coming days; some people may be underwhelmed with who we buy, but that does not mean they will be bad players.

I bet Norwich fans were not overly excited with their signings at the start of last season.

I agree with you on the whole but what Norwich did do over the last couple of seasons is more or less exclusively sign players between the age of 21-28 with the exception of Tim Krul who was 30, which isn't old for a keeper. So they basically signed players in their prime or ones just coming into it, something I hope we do... but when you see us linked to players like Olsson and Adomah you wonder if much has really changed in our scouting.

I'd be much happier with us signing cheaper players entering their prime years from Europe like Norwich did than I would if we signed over 30s who are exiting their prime and probably on fairly significant wages.

In all fairness, Adomahs name was first linked to us via BristolLive, who seems to have a thing about us, especially during the close season when not a lot is happening. They were doing that last year, claiming we were in for every name available. That paper has an obsession with Forest and Leeds

Cos us and leeds have a lot of fans so they get a lot of clicks probably!

I think there is something in that age range of 21-28.

Forest seemed to have had a lot of younger players under Mark.

Older ones under Aitor.

Be nice to have players in their prime so that we have a squad that is progressively building rather than tear it up and start again.

Hopefully an end to shot gun recruitment.

I think Norwich have done well with their recruitment over the years.

It's just about being well run. Being consistent on and off the field. It makes a difference. It seemed to for the top 6.

And Norwich. How many times have they been promoted to the Premier whilst we've been out of it?

They must be doing something right.

SA.

Could it just be possible we haven't done a lot yet in the transfer market is because MON wants to have a good hard look at the players that were out on loan last season, to see if he feels any of them may make the grade before jumping in and spending money when he may not need to?

Just a suggestion

Fair point Tricky - but I would hope that MoN is fully aware of what these guys are about ( surely no more of an ask than knowing what potential signings have to offer ).
