Ryan Yates

Given that he has continued to grow - he’s now 6’ 3” - could ( should ) he be considered as a centre back option? I watched him a number of times as he came through the academy teams but - although Gary and his team are keen to try out players in different positions - I don’t remember him playing at the back ( other than possibly at full back ).

I'd keep him where he is.
He's developing nicely and is getting better all the time.

He’s a bit slow to be a centre back?

He’s a bit slow to be a midfielder.
Not for a second suggesting he move - but an option?

Looks a tad bit congested in defence now if McKenna and Ioannou sign

Yep - sounding good.

Ryan has played ok this season but not any better than that.

He should have scored the easiest chance of the game against Cardiff but fluffed his lines.

However since the start of the 18/19 season with Yates in the team we have:

Played 31; Won 10; Drawn 8; Lost 13

That’s a win percentage of 32% and a loss percentage of 42% for those percentage fans out there.

Without Ryan in the team our record is:

Played 22; Won 10; Drawn 7; Lost 5

That’s a win percentage of 45% and a loss percentage of 23%

For me he weakens the Team as a whole, he hasn’t contributed enough on the pitch and doesn’t warrant being part of the first eleven.

Just my opinion though.

I advise you to read the tactical review/explanation of the Cardiff game from ForestBoffin.

It's a great read.

'The game has thrown up an interesting selection issue however; new signing Harry Arter should slip straight into the side - I might have thought Colback would partner him. However, Yates is significantly outperforming his more experienced teammate at the moment. He claimed responsibility on and off the ball in the second half against Cardiff, and was the driving force in Forest’s revival. Will Lamouchi make the brave choice and go with the form man?'

There'll be a riot on here if Yates is picked ahead of Colback or Arter.

I'm afraid so. For some "supporters" Yates will always be a scapegoat no matter how well he has played.

I have a theory that Colback was signed on reputation alone and that right now Yates is a sharper and fitter player. I would be very happy with Arter and Yates as the central pairing.

Colback didn't play at all last season and has had an injury to get over, I don't think it's surprising if he's rusty - and he was against Cardiff.
We have a squad for a reason, the compacted season this time out. I'd have no problem dropping him till he's up to speed. We need to be ruthless and select only those who are performing. Figs should be worried as he has been culpable in several of goals conceded.
