We missed yatesy against Cardiff that's for sure. We'll miss him tonight too with Sow still being out.

Pre lockdown Yates was everyone's favourite scapegoat however I think he's been pretty useful since then. Impressive fitness and certainly willing to take pain for the team!
Just needs to work on his passing, the amount of times he either gives it away or underhits passes is irritating. Maybe he should be a CB rather than DM

We saw the same when Geddy had to wear one, his passing went from average to being all over the shop. I wonder if Ryan is having similar issues?

Ryan Yates is in the team on merit at the moment. Under Lamouchi he will continue to improve.

He’s still gash. If he hadn’t had come through our academy more fans would have a very different view of him.

He should look good playing in a midfield of three defensive midfielders.

Yates has been Decent since the restart. His passing needs work and is highlighted by how little of the ball we generally have in games. To my mind he has missed two key passes against sheff wed and again similar yesterday when we had overloads in good positions. Looking at other teams that have lots of the ball then more creative players than Yates miss those passes a couple of times a game but it doesn’t get highlighted as much.
We do need more balance in midfield though

Just to repeat what I have said consistently before. Yates will play in the top division for a good number of years, hopefully it will be with us. His attitude and commitment to improving his game is total and will pay dividends more and more. He has been very good since restart, but will continue to improve. If McGugan had his attitude he could have gone to the top. I would say the same whether he came through the academy or not.

Random question:
Given that he has continued to grow - he’s now 6’ 3” - could ( should ) he be considered as a centre back option? I watched him a number of times as he came through the academy teams but - although Gary and his team are keen to try out players in different positions - I don’t remember him playing at the back ( other than possibly at full back ). |
