Most of the top scorers in the game now are the advanced midfielders, forwards are used to move defenders, hold the ball up and create space. There are a number of players in this squad just waiting for a forward thinking manager to give them some freedom. Mighten, Johnson and Zinckernagel all possess fantastic and varied qualities. Problem is, the current manager worries about what they can't do, so they rarely get opportunity to show what they can. If the game was purely about players, then why do clubs even employ managers, why do he hire and fire them? Surely it's just about putting the best ones on the pitch and now the system you have them playing in, or the mentality to which you impose on them? He's holding them back. We don't have a centre-forward?! Lewis Grabban scored 20 goals, 17 goals & 20 goals in the 3 seasons prior to Hughton arriving! He doesn't score, and the team doesn't score, because of the negative approach that the manager adopts, with us now looking like we haven't been coached on the training ground since he joined. This one is probably for the budget thread. Picking up the pieces again. Can it be moved? RE: Your Thoughts On The Current Nottingham Forest Manager - Salvatore Matrecano - 28-08-2021 Come on Stirred, I know you want to blame CH for everything but Grabban has been gash for some time now. He had 2 half season scoring streaks under Karanka and Lamouchi but thats it, in my opinion he has gone as an effective striker. Any manager is going to struggle if we stick with Grabban and Taylor up front we are a bottom 6 side. By the way this is not me defending CH, IMO we should have parted ways 3 months ago. I would agree Grabban has peaked (I said we should have sold him last summer and got flak for that call). But he’s not as bad as he has looked under Hughton. He scored 2 pens and 4 goals from open play last season, that’s 1 goal every 500 minutes from open play! He’s better than that. And bottom 6? I bet way more than 6 clubs in our division would like to have him (just in terms of a player this season, ignoring budget constraints etc). Get them playing with a smile on their faces, creating chances and enjoying their football. More chances, more goals, more confidence… I just think if we bring in a good coach who lets these players show us what they’re capable of people will be pleasantly surprised. Also backed the sale of him, made real sense business wise. Naive move not to sell him. But he also is better than he has been. We totally starve him of anything. We build play so slowly, the space is gone to create by the time it gets into and area to cause problems, the opposition have ten men behind the ball. The gap between our back six (cos that's what we have) and our front four is chasmic. Can't tell me that's down to players, it's how they're set up. RE: Your Thoughts On The Current Nottingham Forest Manager - PsychoStanleyStone - 28-08-2021 this thread should be called debate with SA or ask SA or have a rant, a moan, a go, and SA will very calmly respond i wanna say stuff but don't want an argument let's try this approach .. SA, do you think CH should be doing anything better? (yes with what he has got, we know he ain't got his own signings and got everyone else promoted). It's a tight squeeze to fit in people who disagree with me. SA. RE: Your Thoughts On The Current Nottingham Forest Manager - Madforit - 28-08-2021 Well after watching the game in the home end with a great bunch of lads(even if they are the enemy) I am more convinced that he still has to go, after a long debate with them, they are under the impression that if we keep him we will really struggle, and even though they hope that CH stays as our manager, they also stated that if we were to sack him and bring in a new manager then they could see us improving and start to gain points on the board and move up the league. So for me nothing changes and he really has to go for the good of the club. RE: Your Thoughts On The Current Nottingham Forest Manager - Salvatore Matrecano - 28-08-2021 Always find what other fans have to say interesting as they look at it through a neutral lens, well not exactly neutral for Derby but you know what I mean. The point is this time last year they were all moaning what a brilliant decision we had made to bring in CH whilst they were still stuck with Cocu. Im still on the fence mate. He should have achieved more with last seasons squad, there are no signs he will improve much with the squad we will realistically end up with for this season. If we were going to part ways though we should have done it at the end of last season rather than ballsing up this season. Were those Derby fans right that a new manager with this squad would do much better? They were wrong last year. The point is this time last year they were all moaning what a brilliant decision we had made to bring in CH whilst they were still stuck with Cocu. Why should he? Sabri went on a shocking run with last last and last season's squad. And they were his players. That Hughton got them to stave off relegation and turned them into a 'more' competitive outfit (many, many draws...just lacking a cutting edge of a striker and winger...) They're not his players. New broom sweeps old. And he has brought in one permanent player in the last year. 1. A keeper. Not 1 permanent outfield player. Not one. You're not going to be mid-table or top 6 unless you recruit quality players. Forest did not. Given that we haven't brought in a good striker since Aitor, many of the draws could have been turned into wins IF recruitment had brought in a single striker. It was a massive error by recruitment. They brought Hughton in AFTER they brought in the roundly derided transfer business. Why should Hughton turn the shower that were let go into top 6 material? The good bits about last season, Garner and Krov', weren't here for the start of it. Neither was a LB. And we've been without a LB for 5 games with the late arrival not fully fit to start today. SA. |
