Are we playing 2 strikers or are we playing 3 number 10's?

In formational sense it's 2 strikers, I agree MGW does seem to profile more as a number 10 same as Lingard. Brennan more of a wide forward perhaps too.

This is the nub though, either MGW needs to learn how to play CF or he needs to drop back (or drop out)

I'll say it again, why is Brennan the scapegoat and MGW (playing in the same position) free from criticism? Both allegedly playing out of position, I wonder is it the shiny price tag on his head that is clouding judgement?

This I think is the issue and is so different to how we set up last year. It does feel like Cooper is just trying to shoehorn MGW Lingard and Johnson into the same starting line up.
Ive given a defence of Johnson above but that doesnt mean he should start every game. Currently I reckon the one that needs dropping is Lingard.

This is what is annoying me, not saying Brennan should start every game either. I'm wondering why he is the scapegoat of the three despite in my eyes at least being the most effective so far of the three? More so why is MGW getting a free pass?

Maybe it's just lots of strangers getting used to playing together?

I know football is a results business, but Cooper should have enough credit in the bank to see us through the season barring if we "Do a D€rby".

Looking back at comments after promotion it was all "we need to back Cooper even if we have a bad run etc..."  we need to stick with him as it won't be easy. And guess what? Its not easy and we're on a bad run.

After 23 years of mostly cr@p he gave us the best season in my opinion since Frank Clark was manager and quite possibly the best 48 hours I've had in over 40 years of following Forest - certainly in top 3 anyway. Of course getting tanked by Man City was horrible and being outplayed by a very settled Bournemouth side -especially after somehow getting 2 up- felt very very rough.

Three losses on bounce is not entirely surprising, despite the massive disrespect shown to Bournemouth by many supporters in build up to Saturday.

Steve Cooper has not gone from being the best thing since Cloughie according to many peoples comments (for me it is Frank) to bring "out of his depth" or whatever. Some of the players may be floundering at moment, but once things settle hopefully we will be competitive.

I trust Cooper.

Brennan is literally playing the same position that he played the entirety of last season. He's also played in the same role for Wales but you know better than both of them right?

He has also been completely ineffective in that position.....a complete passenger.

Thats what managers do......if someone is not performing in games, you replace them and change things up.

How many shots on target ?

We are completely useless up front currently.  The commentators on Saturday were saying how useless we are in the final third, no striker, barely any shots on target........playing the ball around the box and then losing it or putting in some useless cross.

Something has to change, or we will lose to Leeds and Fulham and Cooper will be out of a job.

Its all up to Cooper now, for me. he has to win the next two games, or at least draw them.  Two more losses and I think he will be sacked.

We're playing two strikers, how many shots did MGW? Why is Brennan the scapegoat?

Yes agree he didn't have a great game Saturday (but who else did?!) He was excellent vs Spurs and Everton though.

How many shots has MGW had playing the same position? At least Brennan is getting into the right areas, I would argue the bigger issue is that MGW is not getting into the right positions to support him as the left striker.

He wasn’t excellent at Everton, far from it.

It was very predictable wasn't it, particularly with the tricky fixtures to start. The usual lines about EM not being happy, he'll want to change soon etc.

EM has been very patient with managers in the last few years, he gave CH and Sabri a lot longer than the majority would've wanted. He's got a young and clearly talented manager, 6 games (!) into his first prem season. I'm pretty sure he'll be happy to trust the manager and give him time to work things out. If he was to get annoyed at Cooper not playing the new guys, that would sound dangerously like he's trying to influence team selection to me. However, I don't think that is the case. I'm sure he'd want an explanation as to why the likes of Freuler and Taiwo aren't getting lots of minutes but otherwise I expect him to sit back and let Cooper manage, despite what some of the fans seem to want. Give the manager/owners some credit please, they orchestrated last season superbly (in which we were bottom after 8 games!), they have earned time.

Please stop this, you don't get time in football, in the prem etc. You get 38 games just like every other team.

He was our highest rated outfield player on that Whoscored site. Not saying this is fact but it surely implies he was at least decent?

RE: Nottingham Forest - Bournemouth - Redgirl - 05-09-2022

I hope Cooper can turn us around, I’m sure we will see a difference in the next few games. He is also experienced enough to know you are only as good as your last game. Fans will get on the managers back after a performance like that it’s inevitable, especially in today’s social media world.
I think we were all shocked how bad we were second half, and for once the manager didn’t seem to have a clue how to fix it which is very unusual for him. The next few weeks will tell us if it’s just a blip or if something is seriously amiss.
I have to say though booing the team six games into a new season, in a new league with new players is totally out of order, no matter how angry it is not acceptable.

RE: Nottingham Forest - Bournemouth - Paplane - 05-09-2022

Brennan should not be above criticism. He's a premier league player and it's part of the deal. He's a premier league regular and is going to the world cup so he's got to be man enough to take any criticism on the chin.

I recall this time last year he was being criticised for the quality of his crosses (which I think I disagreed with). Over the course of the season those concerns went away as his game improved. This season his finishing is as sweet as a nut but it's when he's being asked to play with little support and take the desperate long balls that the defenders are throwing at him (as we struggle to retain the ball) that's the problem. It's just not his game to deal with that. And his pace is less of a weapon in this league. He'll adjust and hopefully Cooper will learn how to use BJ to our best advantage in our new surroundings. It's difficult, he's a potent finisher, probably the only one we've got, but we're not creating the chances for him and need (IMO) a bigger guy up front to pull the side forward. More cohesion throughout the side is probably required.
