RE: Stevie Cooper - Salvatore Matrecano - 13-12-2023 O’Neill took over from Karanka. For whatever its right or wrongs it was hardly controversial. McLeish took over from ODriscoll. Again it was a manager who was OK but nothing amazing. Both of those incoming managers were fully backed by the fans when appointed. We had a debate on here about it a few weeks ago due to some loan we had to take out and we were out of pocket due to the interest and we were basically paying the loan back with the instalments from Spurs? Or summat like that??? I dunno! I'll just slip back into my corner and shurrup!! RE: Stevie Cooper - Marco Polo - 13-12-2023 Weird - cooper not involved in all the transfers?! That's not my memory at the games to be fair, as soon as the 2nd of February fans were fighting in the away end at birmingham under Oneill after Aitor Karanka chants. Oneill was appointed on the 19th January. Big Eck lasted 6 weeks after fans were calling him out after a disastrous start to his tenure. I wouldn't call that backing. To be clear its the FFP bit that’s the important part. EM isn’t brassic, we couldn’t spend further because of FFP limits. RE: Stevie Cooper - Salvatore Matrecano - 13-12-2023 (13-12-2023, 10:23 AM)Marco Polo Wrote: Weird - cooper not involved in all the transfers?! That is an appalling article full of errors and misquoting Taylor as well. Correct Cooper didn’t have input on many signings exactly as it is at almost all PL clubs. He is head coach not manager nor head of recruitment. It is Coopers job to coach the entire squad whoever they are. We got in Santos before it was clear we would land either Sangare or Domingueez. It’s pretty obvious he was an insurance policy and a sensible one at that. There are some absolutely bonkers suggestions on here on both sides of the Cooper argument which are twisting facts. I will try to call out those who are doing so when I can. I think we took got the money in whole upfront minus a few million - think it was an Aussie bank that gave us the money and Spuds were going to pay the instalments direct to Macquarie (?). The minus a few million will be their margin. For whatever its right or wrongs it was hardly controversial. Both of those managerial changes were made when we were doing well and in the top 6. Both precipitated a downturn in results and a return to a more negative playing style. Hardly surprising they didn’t go down well. Not sure about fighting in the away end but would have thought that was a very isolated incident. At home games there was grumblings but nothing more. Mcleish left after 6 weeks with 1 win in 7 games but mainly left because he wasn’t supported with January transfers as promised when appointed. Zulus not required that day I think the article covers the fact that certainly Alex Mgleish was not fully backed on appointment. Let's get back to Steve Cooper now though. Yep, in accounting terms it's considered pure profit regardless of the cash flow. Cash flow and Balance sheets are very different, you can often have scenarios where there is money to spend but no actual physical cash to make the moves. Hence why clubs willl take loans against future cash flows, like a sale of a player in installments. Sometimes paying more up front will also get you a smaller fee as the other team wouldn't have to take a loan for example. This is clearly true, however it is not the prevailing opinion on here if you read most of the comments. |
