He doesn’t know much about anything. Including football finance.

Maguire appears as an ffp expert on many different media outlets and likes the sound of his own voice imo. He obviously knows a lot about the subject (I'm not trying to shout him down) but he doesn't offer much insight into the nitty-gritty details of these cases, just spends his time broadly explaining what the rules are. Having said that, he was responsible for bringing The Sheep's dodgy amortisation practices to the attention of the EFL a few years back, so we've got to be thankful of him for that.

The expert on Talksport yesterday came across as being much more knowledgeable about Everton's case, he'd studied the judgement, clearly knew the case inside out and offered opinions based on the legal situation as he understood it.

They're primarily talking about Everton but our case gets a mention in the last five minutes or so.

I thought Maguire was a Derby fan hence why he commented on their position a lot at the time?

It says he's been in there at the heart of matters, dealing with this kind of stuff day to day? I believe he's a lawyer too so understands legal process, whereas Maguire is a uni lecturer in accounting. But I know nothing about the guy so cant offer any more of an opinion.

Pap do you know if he owns a bakery or not?

No, he was the guy that wrote to the EFL pointing out that the sheep were dodgy as f. Sheep fans hate him and hold him responsible for their woes.

RE: NFFC Financial Talk - The reds - 28-02-2024

Is it right in me thinking that our case isn’t just based around Johnson sale?

My understanding, I might be wrong, is that unlike Everton we're not disputing we over-ran the allowable limit, just that there were mitigating factors, such as the delay in the sale of Johnson. There's also been some vague mention of promotion bonuses, so maybe there's a grey area around how those are accounted for.

RE: NFFC Financial Talk - JollyLolly - 28-02-2024

Nobody really knows The Reds, it will almost certainly be left under wraps unless the PL or Forest decide to divulge any elements of the case.

That’s my understanding.
When you submit the PS&R statements to the EPL there are certain deductions and allowances that are included that obviously aren’t removed from the accounts you submit to HMRC.

So because of the close scrutiny we were under given the level of spending in the first season, the EPL will have gone down the deductions and allowances and said you can’t include that amount or certainly made adjustments. They did exactly the same with Everton before they appealed. The EPL weren’t accepting the level of some of their deductions.

I would imagine the changes to those figures, then made us over the 61m which we then worked closely with the EPL re the BJ sale.

The commission said Everton had gained a sporting advantage by having losses in excess of 105m which other clubs had stuck to.

That argument doesn’t take place with us, having only had a 61m allowable loss limit. The gaining of a sporting advantage hasn’t taken place with us, regarding other team that were in the league.

Therefore I believe it will only be a suspended deduction at worst.

RE: NFFC Financial Talk - Salvatore Matrecano - 28-02-2024

We arguably had a sporting advantage over Bournemouth and Fulham though. I accept both of those teams had been in the PL within the 3 year period but if one of them had been relegated last season they would rightly be aggrieved.
No disrespect R73 but this is what I mean by people making up rules in the hope it gets us off. At best we are talking about mitigating circumstances, but the Everton ruling was very clear about any breach getting a points deduction. I hope I am wrong.

RE: NFFC Financial Talk - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 28-02-2024

QPR breached but didn't get a points deduction.

Every case is different so lets just wait and see.

We can talk about it until the cows come home but the independent panel will decide and we will know soon enough.

You're not wrong Salv.

See my previous post.
They said mitigation aside, breach of E.51 was a points deduction offence.
That doesn’t mean the mitigating factors aren’t sufficient to offset all of any points deduction.
Conversely, neither does it mean that they are enough.

We just don’t know, nor can we know.
Personally I think we will get a deduction, but it will be small (2/3 pts). Likewise Everton.

This might suit everyone.
Politically, the PL saves face and is seen to enforce the rules, and might be hoping both we and Everton will be sufficiently away from the bottom 3 by the time of any announcement that we don’t challenge the penalty and it’s all boxed off before the last game of the season.

Stefan Borson was a City advisor prior to Abu Dhabi taking over so I'm not sure that is true.
