Discuss Daniel Taylor's Thoughts
"No football manager would take over at a club and be expected to have to work in various capacities with the previous manager who failed, and isn't used to playing second fiddle to anyone"

But would you want another 70-odd players through the door, and bloated wage bill, for the handful of decent signings they did make? I wouldn't. I'm not sure Dane would either.

I agree that 7m was good money for BB, my point was that few clubs sign as many duds as we have. Paplane was using BB as an example of Blackburn fans signing duds. But he's improved far more and far quicker than Carvalho has, or looks likely too sadly.

As you say, hopefully a lot of that is hopefully in the past now. Vrentzos is clearly an excellent accountant and negotiator. If Dane involves him in that capacity then that's cool. Having him involved in recruitment and sourcing players however feels like playing Steve Stone as a center forward. If he sticks to what he's good at, we'll all be better off for it.

Fingers crossed we see an upturn in results sooner rather than later with these new players. Personally, I think it's a step in the right direction, but there needs to be a lot of eyes on Jan too.

Forget loans as aside from last year with Christie and Garner we've had a pretty bad run.

Permanent signings though there have been a couple of hits:

McKenna
Soh (jurys still out at least)
Samba
Sow
Silva
Grabban

How many of that 70 is permanent? I optimistically assume only half and the rest loans?

How many of those signings have we sold on for a sizeable profit though? Also, it's OK dismissing loans as if we don't pay them wages, but we do.

And I think the fact that out of the permeant signings 4 of them cost 20m (Carvalho, Jenks, Da Costa & Soudani) is more damning though. We allegedly got some money back for Soudani, so strike him off the list and that's still 17m in transfer fees alone flushed straight down the toilet.

Overall it has been nothing short of an utter disaster IMO, and is one of the prime reasons why the club's now in such a mess.

Yes you're right on loans agreed, we've really not done well there and wasted a sizeable amount.

Tbf three of those are still in or around our team now so would have decent resale value. I would say we got good value from Grabban and Sow for what we paid, they were key to almost making the playoffs. Silva probably broke even.

Yeah the Carvalho one is the one that really hurt us.

There's no denying the club isn't in great shape atm, but I don't think it's as bad as some people do. The stuff about the way the club was treating staff etc was way more worrying to me personally.

Not saying this is you necessarily but there is an unwillingness in the fanbase to accept that we can't compete with the parachute payment teams and that if we were just run perfectly we'd suddenly be way better off.

The last few years the gap has got bigger (and these teams have used the advantage better). Sure there is the odd exception ie Barnsley last year, QPR and Millwall recently too (although QPR went through a lot of pain to get here). In fact you could argue we were that exception under Sabri.

I know its easy to bash the wages spending as bad but based on the last available accounting data we were still 11th and that's with all the terrible spending on the likes of Hefele and Jenkinson. Hopefully therein lies our window of opportunity to at least close back up to QPR etc once we've managed to finally remove some of the deadwood.

We're bottom for a reason(s.)

“We need a footballer who arrives and is ready to play.”

Ironic.

Glad he spoke out, he clearly had calmed since deadline day and I think he kept his powder dry to maintain his composure.

But damning inditement of Vrentzos still at the club with far too much influence.

Worrall being on half of what Lyle Taylor is sums the management of the club up over the past few years perfectly. How has that transpired?

Still need a clean break from Vrentzos, which has not happened as was alleged to have happened.

I personally thought he was very well thought out in what he said. He was fair and balanced throughout and spoke simple truths.

My particular favourite was the open letter and where we are on that.

I would like to hear the response from the club regarding that open letter and what they plan moving forward. Won’t happen though

You see this is my only real problem with Taylor, I like him I really do, we need someone to hold the club to account, nobody else does, he was the one that shone light on Fawaz, BDs dodgy cousin etc we owe him big time. His work on exposing the child abuse scandals is utterly amazing.

The problem is his obsession with the open letter and broken promises. I get that he feels deceived and he lapped it all up but Im sure there were good intentions at the time. Besides what organisations do not put out PR spin? They all do. His main job is covering Manchester Utd and City. Are you telling me those clubs dont put out PR spin some of which turns out to be crap?

He makes the point about the academy and CAT 1 being behind the game which is correct but why not shout about it now, especially when there is so much local competition. If someone wants to fact check but I think it might have been him when the announcement was made he said he was disappointed we hadnt made a bigger deal about CAT 1. Yes our training ground is still too small and no we haven’t qualified for Europe in 5 years but really I didn’t expect to.

He is right to blow the whistle if he hears about off the field things that dont seem right, the Zoom call, suspicions of interference etc. But he might have still more credibility if he let one or two things go.

Spoke out? He didn't say anything even remotely controversial.

Not sure why you are being such a drama queen.

I agree SM; if Danny has information about wrong doing or incompetence or anything else which is not right behind the scenes, he has a duty to speak up, and to be fair, he has not held back in the past.

However, some of his recent revelations have been either incorrect or barely newsworthy.

His claims about Cat 1 are a complete misrepresentation of what has happened and blaming Marinakis because some other Clubs have stolen a 9 or 10 year march on us is totally laughable.

He completely ignores the fact that the Cat 1 attainment process runs over a three year cycle which limits a Clubs means of accessing the programme; Marinakis purchased the Club in 2017, the first opportunity to apply for Cat 1 would have been in 2018 - given the short timeframe and the complete mess inherited, there would not have been time to submit an application which would have succeeded.

2021 would have been the first realistic opportunity of obtaining Cat 1 in the Marinakis era, and that is what happened.

If Danny wants to know why we are 9 and 10 years behind Derby and Leicester, maybe he should have asked the person in charge 10 years ago, although I doubt he would have got a satisfactory answer as the owner at the time was too busy throwing his toys out following a supporters protest.

His claims that the rumours of Murphy's threatened resignation was the work of a former Director appear strange; the only two former Directors listed at Companies House are Samantha Gordon and Johnny Metgod; why in Gods name would they get involved in a stunt like that?

Danny needs to let his unedifying spat with Johnny Owen's drop and get back to his day job, which he is excellent at.

I think you may have misheard that. It wasn't a former director and I'm pretty sure Taylor didn't say that. It was a former board member of the Supporters' Trust, which indeed it was as I saw the tweet Taylor refers to.

And how would he know did he hear it in the Red Lion?

It was obviously just a rumour and should be treated as such.

I didn't hear anything in the interview to be alarmed about whatsoever.
