If we can get top 5 (98% chance that we get 5 Champions League places) then that is another 80m minimum just for the 8 group games,

Add that to the extra 40m in league prize money, and the additional sponsorship deals we could secure, and it is genuinely game changing for us.

Trouble is there's such a drop off the year after if you fail to qualify again. That was the start of Leicester's downfall.

Newcastle struggled to get back in there the year after as they just couldn't cope as a squad with the league and champions league football. And with the financial rules in play still haven't been able to get squad together that can cope with so many games.

I would still rather get into champions league than not but it does have it's disadvantages for sure. Also if we get in then I believe we have to go through qualification rounds before the league.

Newcastle were extremely unlucky not to progress if memory serves they were done over by PSG
