There is a bigger picture to look at not just Barnsley and Stoke right at the end.
For 95% of the season we had it spot on. That is good enough for me and why I just want to see a few tweaks to our playing style here and there.
Agreed Sniff.
Yeah also agree, hopefully sabri just lost his head a bit in the relentless nature of the run in. It was pretty intense
That was it. The squad was dead on its feet and they were physically and mentally exhausted imo. A bigger (and more capable) squad would have been much better prepared and fresher. No major surgery reqd.

thanks chaps, the 90% of the games and 90% of the season was on track for achieving 100% in the cumulative test, ie 6th
the Sheff Wed, Swansea and particularly Derby performances were good, we did look like the top 6 side for much of the games
the first half hour against Stoke we were distinctly the better side
it's the Barnsley thing, but they have always been a bit of a bogey side, even during the auto promo season 93/94 i can still remember us losing there, also Oxford, also at Notts, they all seemed like really nice sunny days in my memory
still feels unrealistic to expect any change in style, and a certainly wanting to hope and want SL to come through this having learned and become a better manager, i think he is still having a few sleepless nights and nightmares, even so there is always hope
did he ever change styles at other teams?

The thing about Barnsley is that we came within 30 seconds of pulling it off and qualifying for the play offs. 30 seconds! I am sure that Sabri would have been lauded after the match for a defensive masterclass had the game finished 30 seconds earlier and we got the one point needed for the play offs.

We would've limped over the line sniff but then have been in no fit state to be competitive when we got there. Looking at Fulham and Brentford in the final, we could never have matched their energy levels. The squad had 40/42 games in it. Fulham's quality and depth of squad eventually came through. Top scorer Mitrovic missing and still they won.

Maybe Pap, but maybe not. If we had secured that point at Barnsley, and with no need to field a full XI against Stoke, we could've rested most of our key players and let the squad players take the hit against Stoke. A Luxury neither Fulham or Brentford could afford.
But, that's football for ya, all if's and but's and opinions :D

What a very very fine line though. Just 30 bloody seconds.

Sabri will need to me more aggressive and offensive minded this season. Ofcourse it helps with better playing staff

3 centre backs against barnsley springs to mind...or any other time he tried a back 5.
The countless number of last minute goals because we didnt put teams away.

Is it then a back 5 or maybe a back 3. Could be seen as a offensive move when pushing the wing backs high.
And I agree, we have to get better at DEFENDING as a team for 97+ minutes.
