This kind of proves the point I was trying to make about Brice, he's not in our top 6-7 keepers over the years. I do like him but he's not as good as what some make him out to be.

5) Dorus De Vries

I'm not sure Brice gets into that top 5 yet but may do if he has a solid 2nd season.

Impressive list, some really top draw keepers there. Agree with most, other than I might argue Segers did OK but matured into a top keeper after he left. Vaguely recall Cloughy commenting something like Segers looked like he was trying to chase Hayleys Comet after a particularly flappy game....only Brian eh?

Only Sutty and Norman really did long service for us off the list. Proviso as obviously Beasant was late 30s, but was unbelievable. I thought Darlow as a young lad was very good for us.

Out of that list Samba reminds  me most of Segers at present.

Gerrard was a good keeper.

Tommy Wright, did well for us, though didn't realise he only made 11 appearances, I remember him quite well, I must of seen most of those games

Sutton was the best for me (part from Stilton but I was a bit young to appreciate him). He was excellent and matured into a great keeper. Excellent distribution - quick throw and very few howlers.

Crossley was hit and miss.

Segers wasn’t great for me from memory.

Beasant was great and probably had his best few seasons with us!

DDV - I didn’t rate at all. Also thought Camp was a bit of a hot head and believed in his own hype.

Paul Smith - not horrible enough for a keeper

Gerrard - OK

Samba - I put him right up there. Needs to prove it next year too but keepers like him are few and far between. I can see him being a 10-20m keeper!

Crossley was probably the best shot stopper of them all in my opinion but just couldn't deal with crosses. 94/95 crossley was 2nd in the league in form to schmeichel

De vries didnt play here really until his 3rd season in a poor side . Did well in fairness to him winning player of the year but blew chances at wolves and celtic when he was under pressure.

Do you not remember Hans van Breuklen Ozzy? For me he was definitely one of the best

Only just - 84-85 was my first season ticket and only went to the odd game before that. Went to a few European nights but just a blur from 79-80...

Ward was reasonable - Harty was quite before his time with distribution from the back to either full baxk bombing on with Scimecer doing Watson’s role and use of inside forwards.

Back on topic...the weather on Saturday wasn’t great, the ball was skidding, neither keeper coped brilliantly with it, it actually assisted in our goal as it picked up speed across the grass.

Everyone seems to have forgotten Chris Woods, excellent keeper, great shot stopper and could catch a ball unlike some we have seen in the garibaldi, I`d put him alongside Shilton and Van Breukelen as one of the best goalies we have had at the club.
