Is it just me or have we overhyped Samba a bit?

I have been less than convinced by some of his recent performances.

The post above by DMA was made before lockdown.

I think he may have a point. I am yet to be convinced by Samba. The jury is still out for me.

Yet he had amazing write ups about him, especially from Caens fans.

I do wonder if he is carrying a knock.

Position wise - the best I’ve seen for a long time. Kicking and distribution is usually good. Physical presence is great. Amazing reactions.

Since lockdown he has conceded three goals and only One of them can be Partly attributed to him.

I do think he may not be 100% though

Best we’ve had in a long time- wouldn’t be playing for us if he was 100% consistent too

I think his influence is greater than his playing skill too- how much of an effect does he have on Figs and Worrall?

Good point Ozzy. 2 of the 3 conceded have been penalties to be fair.

But i do agree that some of his handling has been concerning of late and we have gotten away with it for now due to the defence mopping up spillages by Brice.

He is a cracking goal keeper, of that I have no doubt and I do think he is one of the best in the league, but there is definitely something not quite right with him at the moment, as he has dropped off a bit, not just since lockdown either, he was having a few hairy moments before the league was suspended.

The only other thing i could think of is that his concentration levels may slip a bit, with him having so little to do in matches, mainly as a result of such superb defending!

All keepers go through dodgy spells. Even Man City keeper got caught yesterday and it had been coming and he cost more than our club!

Muric, Pantilimon ans Smith all making Samba look better than what he is? Possibly.

If any of the 3 mentioned above had put in the same level of performance in 1 or 2 games that Samba has recently played in they would have been absolutely slaughtered.

I'd take an 80% Samba over a 100% Pants. Over the course of a season he's made a difference and done things that have won us points. 

We're a 2nd division side. All players at our level have flaws.

Yes I agree Pap with that you are right.

Don't misunderstand me I like Samba and he is a good goalkeeper. I am just not convinced that he's as good as some make him out to be.

I bet a few teams will try to throw a few big crosses in the box now he's flapped at one. 

It's nice having a keeper with a bit of personality. His arrogance, or rather confidence, brings out the best of the players in front of him. Compare to Pants, who instilled a sense of panic.

Fans like him because he's a bit of a character and he has an arrogance about him and I get that but I am looking beyond that and looking at his actual performances between the sticks. I'm on the fence.

He's greater than the sum of his parts. Meaning, he may drop the odd clanger (Millwall away, sheep away), and have the odd spell of averageness (as at present), but generally his authority and outward personality instill an air of confidence to the defence, which itself generates anxiety to the opposition. All good keepers do this.
