All opinions but I think that Pants is a fantastic keeper, he takes loads of pressure off and his kick out last week was wonderful showing his distribution is cracking, which was also the case last year. With a decent back 4 and a threat up top he will get even better I believe.

Fair comment. He's a big keeper who carries a lot of presence...and that counts for lot for a Forest side who haven't had 'presence' in many positions for years. That's been Forest's problem. No leadership. No leaders. Forest have leaders from the back with Pants to CM to the strike force. Pants is afraid of being vocal. I like that. He's also got Dawson in front of him. Vocal. Great that Dawson is back.
(Pants, Dawson, Watson, Colback, Geddy, Grabban...all along the spine of the side. No coincidence with Aitor's recruitment. All leaders who carry presence on the pitch along that central spine of the side. There's at least two Captains in that lot.) Superreddamo, you make sound points and I think that you're right. I think with a decent back four in front of him, he'll get even better! Good point about 'he takes loads of pressure off' and how he seems to have good distribution...and that helps with the counter attack. He seems to manage things at the back well. Aitor wants strength in depth. Injuries can seem like a Gypsy curse at Forest. But this time? Forest have Pants, Luke and Smith. Three solid keepers. That's much better than having to rely on Henderson or Estimov as back up. That's the kind of detailed squad building and balanced squad building that allows you to compete for promotion. He's got Premiership experience in good sides. He's a quality keeper. (And Aitor has brought in Luke Steele to push him to do even better.) SA. I think Steele has been brought in to keep him honest. ...but that applies to every position with both last January and this Summer's methodical, calculated and, let's face it, outstanding (!) recruitment. If you don't play well, you're benched or even out the 18. (When was the last time we could really say that?) There's huge competition for places. SA.

I am still not convinced by Pantilimon, not convinced the players are either.
I would like to see Steele get a run of games to show what he can do.

For someone as tall as Pantilimon is I feel he should be more commanding and come for more crosses.

I’ve been banging this drum for sometime.
The first goal we conceded against Wigan sums him up.

Everyone talking about Pants now surprises me, cos he was exactly the same last season, and one of the reasons I wasn't impressed (as others seemed to be) of us signing him
His plus points are of course his size and presence taking up most of goal, and he is passionate and shouts a lot. Yet after saying about his size, we still concede too many goals from set pieces and crosses. And due to his size means he is lacking in reflexes and actually making good dives. I think when he signed last season, he looked better than he was because we have had GK after Gk that were poor who were given opportunities, the likes of strokivov / Smith / Evtimov and Henderson all given chances and dropped the ball (quite literally) You can see why he has been a number two for most of his career. Shame is I see Steele as back up too and not really good enough for a promotion aiming team. Good GK are a rare breed now, and why cost a lot of money. IF you pay cheap you end up with....well keepers that are Pants

Yes he is better than Jordan smith. Can’t you remember the Bury game when he was given an opportunity.
If you see my post (above) thoughts on Pants Shame as don’t think Steele is anything other than a back up either, seems when anyone gets a shot on target it beats him in the games he’s played. Perhaps needs a ring of games.

I’m not convinced he is.
Smith is largely judged on his time under Warburton where he was being asked to do something unnatural to his game, which was clearly effecting his performances. In addition the defensive four in front of him were arguably one of the worst defensive units we’ve had for some time. Pants has been given a run of games and proved to be more of a liability than an asset. It’s only right that either Steele or Smith is given the same opportunity. |
