Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020?
I think it’s fair to say that there is more to the reported £13m.

So are we going to bash Marinakis now. The bloke has given about 50M to Fawaz, smashed our transfer record and promised more than 100M to redevelope the City Ground. Yes, lets bash him for that

Eh? What's any of that got to do with Da Costa or his signing? (which is what my post was specifically referring to)

If anything my post was in defense of EM, showing he has spent some cash

To be fair to MadSquad your post did stink of sarcasm. That's how I read it anyway and obviously MadSquad felt the same.

Not being sarcastic in the slightest mate. We spent 25m when we finished 17th, so it's a bit baffling as to why we'd only spend 2m when we sat 3rd & 2pts off the autos IMO

Da Costa appears to have been a very poor way to spend 2m at a crucial time too. He's an injury history, had scored 1 in 14, and - like most imports - has to adapt to the British game. All we've done is spend 2m to add to the expensive sideline like Carvalho & Jenks.

Had we 17m worth of quality talent added to the squad as opposed to the 17m we have sat doing nothing most weeks in Jenks, Carvalho & Da Costa I think we'd be cementing our place in the autos now.

I think you answered your own question there Alf highlighted above.

Plus the manager went on record as saying that he didn't want to 'upset' the squad which had taken us that far at the time. Sabri is happy with his signings and he got what he wanted squad wise. He was in constant contact with Marinakis, Vrentzos, Modesto, Anigo and if the manager wanted more he could have had more but he didn't want more.

The manager is happy and personally I don't really care what you think Alf because you are not the manager.

I think he expected those he got to be better quality tbh. But that is pure speculation.

Sabri knew the players Alf very well. He is part of the recruitment team you know and he was himself recruited by Modesto to be our manager.

How's he had time to scout these players Sniff? He's been working day in day out with the squad?

I would rather not spunk money and be top 6 than spunk money to be 17th.......

Last year Villa spent huge and scraped up.
Sheff U and Narch didn't spend much and went up.

We should know better than most, spending big guarantees nothing on the pitch, but plenty of potential problems off it. So long as we are challenging, I'm happy. If Sabri is happy then that's good too.

IF we went up I would even be fine with letting the lads who took us there give it a go at staying up, team spirit can take you a long way. Roy was our only signing when we went up and finished 3rd. Sheff U not doing too bad with McGoldrick and co starting.

I cant speak for everyone but the consensus seems to be the club is being well run at present. A few people battering those responsible for signings-very harshly I think, but hey ho perfection is impossible there will be hits and misses in any club.

It's 2020 Alf not 1980. It's called modern technology.

But Sabri would have known about Da Costa and Bong before he even came to England. All managers have 'player reports' notebooks.

Don’t want to comment too much on da Costa as he has not played but his record isn’t inspiring and o had hoped for more. Diakhaby played OK last 2 games

Da Costas record is not bad Oz because many of those appearances are as a sub. He can also play anywhere across the front 3. He's not just an out and out striker.

Look what happened to Derby; a Club of similar size to us and a Club with similar income to us.

They went for broke, signed players they could not afford, paid wages they could not afford, and then, just when it looked like the gamble might work, they go and lose in the play off final.

Look at the mess they are in!

I know we are all highly amused by their plight, but if the people who so dearly want us to go back to the reckless spending of the Davies and Pearce days, stopped to think for one minute, they would realise how that could just as easily be us.

If that is not sufficient then have a look at how Wednesday are doing, another comparable Club.

One embargo is enough thank you very much.

And yest most of the Strasbourg supporters were gutted to see him leave; maybe watching him play in the flesh is no where near as enlightening as reading about him in the NEP.

Knowing about a player and having seen them in action is an entirely different prospect.

No wonder we keep signing so much rubbish if we're relying on tech & reports for players.

Some of our recruitment team should actually trying watching them.

Are you seriously suggesting to me that neither of Lamouchi, Modesto and Anigo had ever seen Da Costa play? Seriously Alf?

You are losing this battle Alf. May I suggest that you give it up now.
