Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020?

It’s ridiculous how quickly some of our fans write players off.

Because, like the rest of the misses, they've not achieved what they were bought here to do - namely make us a stronger squad immediately at a key time.

Building for the future with academy players? Yes, it's cheap & there's profit in it. Building for the future with 29 year olds at 2m, and 32 year oldds on 2.5 year deals? No. they need to hit the ground running.

It's all right saying "don't write these players off too early", but folk were saying that about Mir & Muric too. Now is the chance to get promoted, not next season, not in 2-3 years, not even in a few months.

If recruitment are signing players for the future when we've the chance to force our way into the autos, they're naive to what is needed and their strategy is all wrong.

To breakdown my evaluation of the players:

Silva - OK - 1 league goal all season from AM - wouldn't get in any other top 6 side first 11
Ameobi - OK - Has done brilliant for his quality. But he doesn't have enough quality, and usually can't see out 90 min either. Again, wouldn't get in any other top 6 first 11.
Chema - OK - Looked solid enough, nothing spectacular.

Mir - Miss - Totally useless. Folk also need to remember we loaned OUT Walker for him. Criminal decision by the recruitment team. If Mir was so good, why didn't we keep him?
Bostock - Miss - Totally useless. Off the pace, far leggier than Watson, a few decent forward passes is all he offers, the rest crap.
Semedo - Miss - We needed a genuine 2nd option to Sow, Semedo's not even as good as Yates. He's a liability defensively and nowhere near up to top 6 standard,
Muric - Miss - As green as they come. Laughable we even considered entrusting a promotion push to a kid like this. Awful signing, and if Samba gets injured he's the one stepping in.
Diakhabi - Miss - Has pace, will win corners, that's it. Can't cross, can't shoot, lacks arrogance/confidence. We needed a wide man like Robinson to come here and hit the ground running. This kid is at the stage where he might put in a decent performance in the last 2-3 games when there's nothing to play for.
Da Costa - Miss - Couldn't get in the team when fit, now injured. Pointless us signing a striker who can't back Grabban up at this very moment in time. Esp when he's 29 and has 1 goal in 14.
Jenks - Miss - Looks awful even after 6 months being "given time" as so many ask for
Adomah - Miss - Brill in a cup game against a load of kids, that's it. Again, if he was so good, why didn't we keep him?
Benalou - Miss - Don't like him playing at all tbh. A red card waiting to happen.
Bong - Miss - Awful. Blowing after 30min, looks like he needs a full pre-season and then some games to be ready to play. Will prob be fully match fit by the time he's 33
Pele - Miss - So good he's helping Reading fly up to 16th. Yet again, if he was so good, why didn't we keep him?
Bonatini - Miss - Ye gads. Poor Wolves.
Milosovic - Miss - "Face doesn't fit"? Bad attitude, couldn't work under several managers, recruitment should have been aware of this before they signed him.

Folk VASTLY underestimate how much Lamouchi is getting from these players with this system. A system which doesn't work at home because that's when we need quality players to break down teams. Quality we don't have because of who we've recruited (or failed to recruit)

I'd buy into the "we're growing a club" ethos more if every year we didn't sell off players like we have Osborn & Appiah this year.  But to me it appears as if all we're actually doing is selling off talent, to bring in loads of sub-standard players who get moved on the following season.

Let's see how many of these "awesome signings" are still here in a year or two, once they've been given the time folk crave. My money's on very few. Recruitment themselves admit they're failings by moving players out they bought in the window before lol.

All we're doing is cycling crap players at the expense of our own quality sales. I wasn't too bothered before because we'd not clubs sniffing round the likes of Cash & Worrall, but selling them in the Summer frightens me when I look at what's deemed good enough to replace them.

If you want a look into our future, look at Jenks and he's the man deemed good enough to challenge Cash for a first team place. Now we'll likely be getting another one like that if Cash goes in the Summer.

Mir in to replace Walker
Jenks in to be first choice RB when Darikwa got injured, and who we'd be relying on if Lamouchi hadn't worked miracles with Cash
Semedo in to cover Sow, but he's not even better than Yates
Bong in to replace Chema as backup to Yuri
Muric in to replace Pantillimon
etc. etc.

It's scary where things could go if they're given another window & we sell key players.

I don’t agree with this type of demand for instant and perfect success. Players take time to settle in, always have done, always will. Real football as played on grass pitches doesn’t work in the way you demand.

So much complaining because we’re ONLY 5th in the league. :)

Me I’m happy with the way things are going.

It is what it is.

A 'transitionary' work in progress.  5th is progress.  Forest have beaten or humbled all the sides in the top 6.  They've come within a whisker of getting 2nd.

And that's probably where Forest bleed dry.  That will take another Summer of thorough transfer work to send Forest 'over the top' to an auto spot.

Forest will recruit better players over time.  That will be the aspiration.

Being 5th shows Forest's hierarchy know what they're doing and headed in the right direction.  5th its higher than 9th.  At this moment in time?  That's progress.

January windows are frustrating (for a laundry list of reasons) unless you can break the bank which the hierarchy won't do.  FFP is a reality and it's not just biting for Forest but for Man City as well.

If we had added Sow, Samba, Rib, Silva and Ameobi and no one else this season we'd have called that a very good hit rate.  As it is, Forest have signed far more players.

I suspect the turnover of players is partly a strategy of 'flipping' some for profit.  But also part of where Forest were and where they are now.

It's part of being run better.

Wanting or demanding more is part of the human condition. I don't know how rational or irrational that is.

Forest fans have come to expect more. We have to demand success. I suspect the new Owner is aligned with that sentiment.

If you stand still in football, you get passed by. It's been that way for 20 years. Other clubs got their act together and over took Forest.

A week is a long time in politics. 20 years in football?

Forest were like a rotting testament to faded glories.

But you have to give credit where it's due to the new owners. A bit of tidying up on and off the pitch. And the ambition is there off the pitch with the installing of a proper hierarchy and finally...! A new stand.

...it's only a matter of time before that is reflected on the pitch.

If it doesn't happen this season, I still would say that top 6 was significant progress with glittering, teasing moments of almost(!) '2nd' and higher on the horizon.

It will probably happen within the next two years at the current rate of recruitment progress.

It's nothing to do with agreeing or not agreeing. More to it than that. Posts also had to be deleted because of slanderous accusations against our owners. Are you aware of that?

Anyway great to see Samba, Ribeiro, Semedo, Silva, Ameobi, Diakhaby and Walker all involved last night. We have built a 'proper team'. Superb progress made from staying up on the last day of the season a couple of years ago to being third in the league 3 points off second. Hats off to the owners, manager and his staff, players and recruitment for making that happen.

Words of wisdom, Master Sniffer Dog.

Poetry of progress.

I think we can add Silva to the 'good' or 'Hit!' list.  :D

He's been getting better all season. It does to show that writing off players early is short sighted. People need time. When the 'right' pieces are assembled it has to be given time to work.

Forest are now 3rd on 59 points. Recruitment must be doing something right...

Absolute legend as a player - no one will question that.
But an unmitigated disaster since.

I can remove it if Alf who started the thread agrees.

Stuart Pearce's recruitment and transfer dealings were exceptional, Antonio and Britt, Burke, got Lansbury onto a longer contract, introduced Osborne to the first team, he had Hunt on loan, can definately spot a player, get them to sign and make a tidy profit, probably did more than Moyes to save West Ham last time.  He deserves respect, he had integrity but was working for total pr1cks here who were clueless.  If you want to study 'unmitigated disaster' compare with Karanka's first 25 games and/or compare profit/loss on Karanka's first 25/30 signings to less than 10 Stuart Pearce signings.
You could argue Matty Cash was a 'Pearce' signing, definately an influencer.
So estimated profit on Stuart Pearce players more than £45m, whatever, doesn't really seem like an unmitigated disaster does it?
Interesting to debate.  Let's go.
Just for the record, I am not really suggesting there is anything wrong with the recruitment team, though the campaign is probably, totally reliant on the core squad keeping free of injuries.

Sorry Psycho I don’t want him anywhere near my club - except in a social capacity.
As I’ve said many times - absolute legend as a player but it ends there.

Fair play TPL. You have never once wobbled from your stance on Pearce. Persistent is the word I would use.

By the way, if Pearce is so good like some claim how come no other club has ever appointed him in a recruitment capacity?

Apart from signing Britt and Antonio Pearce didn't do much else.

Imagine if our present recruitment team had signed biscuits like Hunt and Hutchinson and signed Veldijk whatever his name was on a 3 year contract.
