Clough and Walker didn't get games with Bolton much? Walker still seems to have some headroom to develop. Maybe a move to a Division 1 team to get some game time. Maybe Scunthorpe? Maybe Grant could go there with him? They're both surely too good for Div' 2. Grant scored 16-17 goals for County. He has something.
But with the way Forest are shaping up in the transfer market, they're not going to wait for Clough, Grant or Walker to bloom to get into the Premier. Forest have decided to have the great push now and maybe even a pre-season won't change that for them. They'd probably sit on the sidelines. Shame, I'd like to see Worrall, Smith, Cash, Brereton, Walker and Grant in the squad. But in football, there's no room for sentiment. And Worrall, Cash and Brereton are ahead of the rest in quality.
I guess that means they go out on loan to Div 1 teams?

The Mansfield manager has spoken about being an 'admirer' of Walker. (They could use a good striker...)
But is Walker too good for them and Div 2?

Made a decent start in a mediocre Forest side. But then seemed to 'disappear' as a presence on the football field with Forest. Last season, I can't remember any decent thing he did when he got his chance. When he went back to Bolton, he didn't seem bothered one way or the other about Forest. Was excited to be moving back to his beloved Bolton.
That's the thing about a 3.5 million player. Karanka wants players who REALLY want to be here. Not just going with the flow. Passion for Forest, passion for the project. Clough doesn't want to be a journey man at such a young age. He's got something. Even Karanka has said good things about him previously...and intimated he'd be part of the pre-season plans...but with the new incomings, that may have all changed. The Cloughs, Walkers and Grants must now step up and fight for their Forest place...
Like you say, maybe he has a bit of growing up to do? (Chewing gum whilst having a post match interview tells it's own tale for me...)
I can see Yates over taking him in the fast lane. Yates seems to have a combative, dynamic quality...and is ambitious. Is he 'Worrall' class but for CM? Rates seems highly regarded. Left County (and torpedoed their auto promotion charge in the process....quite happily to test himself at Scunthorpe. ...and did well there. Part of me was hoping he'd get the chance with Forest this season. But maybe he'll get sent out to a fellow Championship side with a January recall option if he does well?)
Now Forest are putting together a develop a proper squad, the young players can develop at a more natural pace rather than being thrown in at the deep end. Some of the young players seemed a bit ragged and at times overwhelmed last season without the guided hand of experience and quality alongside them.

Presume he's on a fair old whack now. That's probably what he's struggling with. He's gone from his boyhood club who've treated him like one of the family, to being a 'star' £3.5m player, on a good wage, and away from home as an adult with responsibilities.
