That is true enough Frochy, then chuck in Fulham, Derby, Boro, Bristol City, Hudders, Stoke.
It's gonna be tough but we CAN do it.
I am sure other clubs will look at us and say 'MON will have Forest up there'.
Not forgetting West Brom too.
I am confident we will be competing at the top end though.

I don't like talk of I hope we finish in the play offs.
Finishing in the play offs guarantees nothing and ends in heartbreak for 3 of the teams. Four teams and three of them fail so a 75% chance of failure.
I want top two. That GUARANTEES promotion.

I think we would all want top two so as soon as the season is over we can plan for next season. I just don't think we are good enough nor will we be good enough for top 2 next season. I also don't think we are good enough to to say we will get a top 6 spot. Thus why i hope for a top 6 but i would suggest we will finish about the same as this year. I'm really on the fence about how we are going to fair under MON. I want him to do it but my gut just says something just does feel like it work.

It's difficult to see a top two finish given our squad and management team, top 6 would require some heavy investment in 3-4 quality players.

Of course top two is difficult, very difficult but I want it, it grinds my gears when people bang on about top six, that guarantees us absolutely nothing.

Nope, but for a club like ours it's about becoming stable, then challenging at the top end of the table. It's the short termism that kills us. Constantly chopping and changing strategies, managers, players etc. It's not been successful for over a decade and there's no reason to suppose it will now.
Cut some deadwood, add 2-3 quality players, develop a coherent philosophy and style and we'll benefit.

spot on Jiggly, i think the season being alive until the last day is good enough, 6th and a good cup run would be nice, buying low and selling high would further compound the feel good especially if it results in equally shrewd reinvestment, this pressure for automatic when the reality is we aren't properly out the wilderness yet after so long becomes toxic very quickly

It will always be looked at short term though whether we like it or not.
That is our life is in The Championship now.
What we want as fans is one thing but what happens in reality is another. It won't change.

Heres a question for all you knowledged fans out there...................We all know the league champions get the old Div 1 trophy and the playoff winners get a cup too. But do the runners up also win a trophy and if so, what does it look like? If the runners up don't get any silverware, apart from the runners up medal, then it is bloody unfair that a side finishing as low as sixth gets something but a team that has done better over the course of 46 games gets bugger all!!! This is a genuine question that I do not know the answer to and really can't be arsed to google it so I thought I would COYR it instead

Ask Liverpool :) I thought that they won the 'second placed 97 points - more than Fergie ever got trophy'
Serious answer....I don't think so and the play off trophy is only really so they can lift something at wembley...

Curious? When do the players report back for pre season ( I note the County players are back on Monday )?
