The managers below us have to double their points currently just to be on the level we are currently

Dyche’s ppg is from a fairly small sample size and boosted by victories against West Ham, Wolves and even Leeds which could have gone the other way. There is more than enough time for those figures to reverse. It only requires a couple of wins for those teams at the same time as losses for us. West Ham do have squad which is better than their league position and a manager we know who can get a tune out of players. The most worrying development for me is the deterioration in performances. They have become dreadful and eventually ppg starts to track them.

I actually think performances have only been awful against Everton. Brighton Man City we played well- West Ham- wolves we got the job done against equally appalling sides, leaving Everton matches and Villa - granted the these were very poor but Villa have been monsters at home. The Fulham game - both sides were shite swayed by a dodgy pen given against the run of play at the time.
Brentford away is really key for me.

So Dyche has come in to the job he’s been told beat the clubs around us and we stay up?

You are correct, wins do boost the PPG figure, and they didn’t go the other way, hence them being presented as they are.

It only required a draw against Man City and Villa with other teams dropping points to have changed the figures further.

The most positive aspect is that the PPG remains decent despite the performances, and there is no fact based evidence to show that performances mirror results when in a relegation battle.

You could argue we were lucky to beat those teams. The performances in all three were not that great and no better than our opponents on the day. In my opinion the ppg of Dyche flatters us based upon performances. That can and likely will change because over a large enough sample size of matches points won do track performances. Can’t keep turning up against relegation rivals, play rubbish and expect to win. We are far from safe and if we are going to stay out of the bottom three it is likely that performances will need to improve. Can’t keep relying on luck which is what we most certainly had against West Ham.

We can't be complaining about winning games when we are 17th. The performances have been 50/50 in terms of good and bad.

Good - Leeds, Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs, Man City
Average - Wolves, West Ham, Fulham
Bad - Everton x2, Villa, Bournemouth, Brighton

You can argue that as much as you want but the results are what they are.

Luck against West Ham? We scored all three goals!

We get it, you don’t want Dyche and will put a negative slant on it regardless.

The worst shout is saying Leeds could have gone the other way, that win was comprehensive.

Ultimately its like saying Ange PPG could have been higher if the big chances had have been taken.

They weren't. We lost.

Surely it could also be argued then that we were unlucky to lose to City where we played well and also against Fulham, where we were no worse than them?

Results don’t always go with performances. What’s the old saying? We’ll play better and lose.⁶

We played very well in my opinion against Brighton - we missed key chances they took theirs!

Have you forgotten the first 20 minites of that game?
