It wont have been on TV but there was a good few thousand of us, maybe more who stayed to give the players a round of applause for their efforts. It was hardly rapturous but I think there was an acknowledgment that many didn’t approve of getting on the backs of the team.

Yeah I was long gone before that happened but I completely respect that. Nothing against the players here. They've been delt a shit hand.

It was disgusting.

To anyone who took part in those chants and dragged the club down to gutter level in the eyes of the world I hope you are happy with yourselves.

Got loads of examples of “fans” around me last night with such a sense of entitlement.

It was the first time I have ever felt like that as a Forest fan.

I felt ashamed, embarrassed and sick to the stomach.

It was horrible to hear and we showed all of Europe what a cesspit of a fanbase we can be.

I drove home listening to TalkShite and they referenced it throughout their show.

I then got home and turned on Sky Sports news and they were going through today’s back pages and everyone referenced the Forest fans.

There's definitely a degree of 'we haven't heard of this team so they must be rubbish' within the fanbase which is both arrogant and inaccurate.

Midtjylland have far more recent European experience than we do.

Actually I think the opposite; the frustration was because even the fans knew what was coming; a Viking version of the crazy gang, physicality and set pieces. Ange knew it too and discussed this in the pre match presser. But we STILL failed to deal with those very elements.

The frustration is that we should have been on the verge of a new era with incremental progress being made. EM has invested massively. The squad is full of potential and much stronger. Yet here we are.

This was a GENERATIONAL opportunity we appear to be throwing down the drain.

And that’s why it’s turning to anger so quickly, particularly amongst people of my age who have waited so long for this.

I don't support the fan reaction but I totally understand it. This has been the first season in decades where we had genuine feeling of expectation and excitement about a season. Not the usual mild optimism that maybe we will challenge for promotion or we will have a good mid table season... But that we can push on and become a credible force.

Now we are a bit of a laughing stock. In some ways last season feels like a cruel joke right now.

Not what you want to hear from your own fans at only your second home game.

Disgusting is the wrong word but it was an embarrassing reflection on us that Derby/Leicester/Palace will use against us for years to come.

I agree with bits and pieces of several posters. I was there and as frustrated as everyone else. I wouldn't join in with the chanting I heard, but there is two sides to it.
We have an percentage of our fanbase that think we are entitled to stay in the prem, I dislike this attitude and don't welcome them at the ground and they'll do one when times get tough again. If you've been through several divisions as a Forest fan you know it can quickly unravel, look at Leicester.

I do also understand it from the long term fans though. I don't blame Ange, if you appoint him you know exactly what you're getting, so giving him the job is extremely short sighted. He is tunnel vision like Anorim, there is only one way. The supporters are torn between appreciation of what EM has put into the club and seeing with their own eyes he has dropped a massive clanger.

It feels much like when McClaren and McCleish were here. The backlash is going to come against the new manager firstly, not against the owner who we are privileged to have, but has his flaws. But the toxicity has started and can drag you into the championship (and further).

Last night we played a team who were extremely competent in their system which raised their level. We didn't compete with the physicality and we don't look to understand the system Ange wants to implement but we are essentially getting a dose of our own medicine. We're attempting, very badly, to break down the very low block we've employed so successfully ourselves. Pushing up the pitch has compressed the space Morgan used to operate in and makes it difficult for the wingers to employ their pace. The counter attack is all but gone, and it is all side to side and back again.

Nuno knew we needed players in early. For whatever reasons things dragged on. He also wanted full backs, these were the last to arrive but essential to bed in for a functional defence. We've been unlucky with injuries to Aina and Murillo and the replacements maybe are not of the standard but barely know each others names.

As with player recruitment, there should be succession planning with managers. Style of play should be key to this to ensure as smooth a transition as possible. We seem to have decided in close season that we are now elite top 6 material and need a possession style of play to reflect this. We should therefore expect turbulence even after a pre season trying to embed this new system.

The backlash is also the 'It wasn't broken in the first place' argument which I also get. The tail off in last seasons results was either 'we got found out' or 'we had a small squad and hit a wall'.
We'll never know now if Nuno's system could have been resurrected to go again with a stronger squad.

Would love to know what EM is thinking right now. Those chants reflect a desperate fan base that have been here before.
