Our Goalkeepers
Nice piece in the sun about our goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa. Has quite the history

John. Discuss.

Watched replays thought he should have done better with both 2nd and 3rd goals. His pissing about with the ball at his feet was alarming all night. No Im not saying he is S**t after one game when others let us down too but I was far from convinced.

Signed because we thought he was a good keeper or to do our mate a favour?

Sal EM doesn't prioritise doing his mate a favour over the football club or the first team squad.

Can we give John more time because it's not fair to judge him on one performance.

I admit I am suspicious of him because of where he’s from and as I said we lost last night because of poor performances from some other players who will be paid far more than John is.

Had just hoped we would sign an up and coming keeper who would be capable of challenging Sels who is 33 and we could be looking at a succession plan. I definitely don’t see that with this bloke.

Edit. I do not want him to fail just to prove me right either. Same goes for Ange who Im relatively positive about.

Most of us had our doubts about Sels too when he first arrived.

I will give John more time before passing judgement.

I don't think its fair to judge him on one rainy night in South Wales.

I thought he was very good to be honest, he looked incredibly comfortable with the ball at his feet and clearly we want to bring teams on to us to stretch the game and open teams up.

For his first game in English football he deserves some credit, especially bearing in mind the language barrier.

I saw one joker compare him to Matt Turner (who I called out from game one) but John is much better.

I agree, looked comfortable and confident for a start. Probably been tasked with playing out from back which he did and he kicked long as well. You could argue he might have done better with the goals but so could argue that for any goal. Jury still out but certainly deserves more minutes when appropriate.

Last goal looked like he could have done better but I thought it was a sound performance- certainly better than the other keepers we’ve had recently

Anyone else freaked out a bit about how similar the guy looks to Miguel? Was it a case of mistaken identity when we signed Miguel last year?   :Funny:

No goalie was saving the last one, the pace on it, on a wet surface, he didn’t stand a chance.

What’s happened to Sels then?

Did he just have a good season and in reality is pretty average? Even then when we were struggling he wasn’t letting in howlers though. But today wasn’t the first time this season.

He shouldn’t have conceded it but why no protection from one of ours? The Bournemouth player was allowed to harass and nudge him.
