Our next few games are very hard, under Karanka I would not have been worried as we played well against teams that attacked us. However, Martin has changed our style so much so quickly that I fear that we will be overwhelmed by these attacking sides and it could be a very tough few weeks. Not sure what Marinakis will do if we get no points from the next four or five games.

I think the optimism stemmed largely and legitimately from the fact we were 5th, on good form and given the amount of new signings, I think we expected to kick on as the players got to know each other/the league better.

That's what I'm saying about the rose-tinted element, we were 5th on 3 match days, for the other 27 we haven't been.

Last season we were 5th on 1 match day, 4th on another & our peak position was 3rd.

The season before that we had 1 week at 4th

Two season before that we had 1 week at 5th, 2 at 3rd, 3 at 2nd, 6 at 1st

As for good form, this season win rate was a touch over 30%, the last managers win rate was 40%, the 1 before 30%, the 1 before that just over 30%, as was the 1 before that.

This season our best run was 2 consecutive wins, achieved once, last season it was 2 consecutive wins, achieved 3 times, the season before that we achieved 3 consecutive wins once.

PPG (points per game) multiplied by 46 games, & rounded to the nearest whole number, to represent a full season show the last manager on 60pts, & the one before on 60pts.

That's what I meant when I said that this season wasn't actually that dissimilar to many of the previous ones. right down to our annual winter slump in form, where we won only 1 game in the previous managers last 6 matches, netting a mere 5pts.

Fans chose to believe it was different, that we were flying high & challenging, but reality said different.

Hopefully now though we can find a way to break the cycle & push on, & I say that both out of hope, & also to try & get the thread back on topic as it's about thoughts on the next manager, not thoughts on previous ones, we have another thread for that.

Ha you’re being a bit cheeky there. Given we were in top 6 in the previous in the first few weeks as opposed to this season when it was in December. That’s a pretty major difference

Why Iberian?

I mean is that a desire, or prediction?

Personally I'm not bothered about nationality, but if it's a prediction I'd say there's a reasonable chance, although, outside of Pep there does seem to be a bit of a waning in the Iberian star, these things tend to go in cycles.

I'm not massively bothered either, just a prediction. As Sniffer says it fits the typical Marinakis mould.

I agree with that. We can talk about managers & players all day long but I tend to think a lot of our footballing problems come from a level higher than that.

The reason I hope the rumour about Karembeu coming over in the summer to run the football side of things at director level is true.

I seem to remember suggesting Nathan Jones and Paul Hart to you a year ago, think that would of been an excellent appointment, just for the style and footballing philosophy and knowledge of the lower leagues

i'm happy to stick with M o N and R K because even if we lose and maybe lose quite a lot it would probably come good eventually hopefully higher than anytime under AK

if Stuart Pearce had lost 100 games on the trot I would of supported him also, though not nowhere near as successful at club management, I just like the guy, I sort of think he could of become a mega supertastic superhuman legend here

Can't believe how AK wasn't sacked last season, if only he had been sacked a year ago and N J and P H had had a summer and £30m to spend, they must know a few gems/tryers/good sorts in the lower leagues so we would of got a lot more mileage out of the money

I'd certainly be open to that. Top football background & experience in this country.
