When we went up in our first season everyone said we were 'doing a Fulham' and that it was bound to fail.
Now everyone's saying Sunderland are 'doing a Forest' and that it's the only way to stand a chance!
What I've learned over these last few years is that nobody in the media knows anything. Its all bluster and, basically, bollocks.
Ignore Talkshite and other idiots but I do think we have changed the narrative from the more intelligent media. The scepticism when we did it was understandable and lets get real here 29 signings was scattergun and some were downright baffling.
However its definitely shifted the opinion that literally the only way to survive is gamble and spend big and wide and “the Forest method” can pay off. Some wont work out for Sunderland same as for us but they may just have enough gems assembled to see them over the line.
Bottom 3 isn’t going to be as predictable as some thought. 29 signings was crazy but tbf some of those were to replace/cover for ones brought in who then got injured (ie Henderson, Niakathe, Bianconne, Lingard, Awoniyi etc) We had an horrific time with injuries that first season back. I’m sure we may well have signed some in the January anyway to help keep us up but some would probably not have happened had it not been for the injuries.
I think my biggest gripe was that the media was almost questioning our right to even try and stay in the league. How dare little Nottingham Forest attempt to upset the lovely premier league apple cart? We'd been out of the top flight for so long, some of these premier league 'experts' didn't even want to acknowledge our status in English football. Gary Neville being top of that list.

Everyone was so upset we signed Lingard instead of West Ham. Also MGW to a lesser extent.
As if we'd done something wrong for daring to persuade someone to sign for us over a bigger team.

Yep, the football establishment laughed when we reportedly paid £40m for MGW (when in fact it was £25m plus bonuses). And they ridiculed us for paying so much for an unknown player. It was like he can't possibly be that good if little Forest are buying him. He was playing in the championship last year etc etc.
And don't get me going about our season of refereeing woes either. Wolves that year also had a lot of terrible decisons go against them. Their decisions were met with sympathy by the media whereas we were told to stop whinging and get on with it.

Yes actually.that bit annoyed me most, they kept reporting it as 45m. Yet when other teams signed someone they wouldn't include the add-ons. It was mainly Sky, fwiw BBC didn't do that from memory. It was so infuriating though, could see exactly what they were doing.
Side note, I wonder how many of those bonuses we've actually met now. Can't be many left to hit!

After the tony and Morgan news I would like to change my prediction for the forthcoming season. And I reserved the right to change it again if we sign players of quality but right now it does feel like we are going to be fighting at the bottom of the table.

Much harder at the bottom this year. I can see 2 of the 3 promoted teams staying up. And looking at it with neutral eyes, Forest look hot favourites to slip out now.

Exactly! At this rate we’ll be down to the youth team by mid August

Chelsea were excellent tonight. Be some force if they can do it over a season.
