It should not feel like this but why does finishing in the conference cup feel more like a punishment than a reward. Perhaps it will feel different if we were in it

It's perspective isn't it? If we'd been mid-table all season and put on a storming finish to clinch seventh we'd all be hailing a brilliant campaign.

Sausage, I know we've had a joke of late about my insecurities,  but this constant churn of positivity at a hugely negative moment of our season seems just as ridiculous as you found my glass half empty commets.

:Funny:

I'm not just saying it for the sake of it, I genuinely think it's true. If we'd been 10th until May and won a few on the spin to finish in a European place we'd all be delighted. Of course because we're dropping into 7th place it feels worse.

Even I'll be a bit gutted if we only end up in the Conference League now but if Man City win the FA Cup or we manage to finish 6th (or higher of course) then I'll consider it an excellent season because my expectations were nowhere near that before the season started.

I think where we are is probably about right, we’ve been incredibly lucky with injuries in the first half of the season but our lack of transfer activity in the January window has come back to haunt us. We do not have the strength in depth to cover any injuries or players that need resting, not buying has probably cost us a CL place.

Nuno clearly has no confidence in Jota, Sosa, Taiwo etc. If he did he would've rotated more before now amd maybe the player's wouldn'tbe burnt out and injured. I'm happy to rely on his judgement to deduce that these players aren't good enough for the level we've found ourselves at. They need to be gone and be replaced with better, amd more of them.

Thats a bit like saying you should be happy to be beaten in a play-off semi final. No, when you qualify for the play-offs, you're sole aim should be to win it.

Our players wont have been congratulating themsleves earlier, the dressing room will have been filled with disappointment and anger.

Not sure that's a valid analogy. We still have the tangible achievement of European qualification for next season. Losing in the playoffs means you have nothing. Of course it's not the competition we really want to qualify for but it is still an achievement.

I wonder what Villa thought about making the Conference League the season after they only just stayed up?

Cant be bothered Sausage, I'm still pissed off here.

Still two matches left. We can still make top five.

Strange things happen with pressure. Our last 15 minutes were dreadful and made so many bad decisions. Man U and Tottenham are both shocking and playing in a final the following week but there may be players playing for a final appearance, playing without pressure - I’m pretty sure on the final day we will not be mathematically out of it…

I can’t look at the table, but I suspect we are 6 points from 2nd place. After the terrible run we’ve had and only 6 pts off second! So close, yet so far.

Yes that’s right.
8th would then get Conference League

If Palace win FA cup then 7th get Conference League

Pretty sure we'd also need to go through a qualifier if we end up in the Conference league
