What will annoy me that one of tottenham or man utd will be in the champions league having stunk the place out all season... we on the other hand could end up being in the conference league which a) has just a terrible name that sucks all prestige out of it, b) seemingly delivers no benefits to the actual winners (eg see West Ham and c) is most likely going to be won by Chelsea's under 20s.
Don't get me wrong, if you offered European football at the start of the season I would be really pleased, but there is something about that tournament when you've had the possibility of the riches and prestige of the champions league dangled before you.
The other thing is that this felt like an opportunity that will not come around again. It feels like such a missed opportunity. Unfortunately that last international break seems to have really effected us. Our mentality - particularly at home- has been so bad. Perhaps our opponents have worked us out... perhaps it's been the constant chopping and changing due to injuries impacting our flow and approach... perhaps its just nerves and fear of failure.
Whatever it is, will we ever have as good an opportunity again?

I posted similar yesterday. It'll be incredibly galling that one of two teams we beat both home and away in the league this season will be in the Champions League and we may not.

Yes we've played crap for the last month or two but in my opinion we have had an extremely successful season and should be happy with it.

Yes we shouldve beaten Leicester today, but we didn't. Maybe nerves played a part in the end. Lets not forget, today was Leicesters cup final. A final hurrah against local rivals in the PL. It could be years before they play PL football again. They turned it on today and didnt roll over like they have throughout the season. Were they good? No! But they wanted to give their fans one final swansong before they disappear into the abys.
As Forest1970 says, we are in Europe.............. let that sink in............ Nottingham Forest FC are in EUROPE!!! So maybe we arent in the Champions League (yet) and we may not get to the Champions League next season with all of its riches and big swanky moneybags teams in their swanky shiny chrome filled full of bollocks stadiums. So what? Before this season started, I dont remember one single fan on here saying we will get into Europe this season. If memory serves the optimism ranged between 16th to 10-12th. We are not ready for the Champions League. We do not have the strength in depth required to compete against the top, top sides. Be honest, how many of you would be happy to see Forest get battered week after week in the Champions League? Those batterings could also affect league form dont forget.
For me, the drop off over the last few weeks is a combination of injuries to key players over quite a few weeks, not enough strength in depth within the squad, fatigue, which comes with playing the same team week in, week out for consistency, a bit of complacency, which has certainly come back to bite us in the arse and finally, teams have sussed out how to play against us now.
maybe sitting in third position for so long has clouded some fans expectations beyond reality. All the other teams have come on strong over the past 5-6 weeks and we have dropped off the pace at the same time. They have had their wobbles throughout the season, sadly we are now having ours, which is levelling everything up.

Poor decisions on subs. Poor in game decisions by players. At 2-1 we were comfortable then started patting about with overloads on the left channel. Then the subs. Why oh why didn’t we bring on Boly for a back 5 - it has served us brilliantly this year and his experience leadership and nouse was needed. The Awonyi thing really boiled my puss at the time and to be fair to Nuno he checked and double checked before letting jota come on but it was really unprofessional. Stop the sub - wait a minute and then make you sub.
Marinakis - I don’t like that - if I was Nuno I’d be furious.

Nuno checked and double checked? It was obvious T could barely stand let alone run around he was doubled over in pain, you don’t need to be an expert. Multiple failures there.
In response to Tricky, its too early to be rational mate, end of the season I will say great were in Europe (currently preparing my sky blue scarf for next Saturday, always loved Abu Dhabi me) but right now Im disappointed and angry about how far our levels have dropped in recent weeks. Actually think its the FA Cup run that did for us, concentrate on the league and all that.

I think it was Chris Wood's injury that started the rot.
And Aina's didn't help either. He's seemed a bit off it since he came back from it too.

Their first goal should not have stood- the throw in was taken over the line and var should have checked that as it led to a goal. It’s clear on the replay.

It's amazing - our luck with injuries for the first 3/4 if the season was brilliant. Yes we lost sangare and danilo and in tge case of the latter, he has really struggled (hopefully he can get back some form in preseason). However since the last international break we've had aina, wood, elanga, cho and murillo all pick up knocks that have caused them to miss games. That has really unbalanced us and our squad does not have the depth to cope. Without cho and elanga our speed on the break has not been the same - we've lacked the same impact going forward.
But I don't think it is just injuries. Ironically we seem to have had more possession than we were having before with our only win being in the game we had least possession (30%). This might be coincidence or it might be that teams have set up to nullify our threat.
Plus... nerves and the fear of messing up. Is it possible that now we have dropped out the players might play with more freedom against West ham. We'll have to wait and see

I'm clinging to that hope too - that we regain some freedom now it's not in our hands.
