Wouldn't be the worst thing to give Aina a rest/kick up the arse. I remember in the survival season Lodi got hooked for toff for a game and it sorted him out.

He was better 2nd half, tbf to Aina the issue was more that they overloaded their three best players against him and we didn't do anything to protect him

Suppose once make decision to go feet first you can't change but he could have easily made the header

I wanted Dominguez to start, I was wrong.

As horrific as the first half was, I’m encouraged by the 2nd. Can we start games like that though?

I think the header was much more difficult than what the coms thought. It was in-between header and cross. Harsh to criticise Elanga imo.

Thought the officials were rubbish.

Gordon dive (straight out of the Eddie Howe playbook) for the freekick that led to the goal.

Soft pen - that’s never given to us in the same circumstances and they didn’t even look when we had a similar one later.

Two Toon players took each other out > free kick to them.

And 3 minutes at the end was an absolute disgrace. A joke of a decision. You just know if we were 4-3 up and they were chasing an equaliser, it’s 6 minutes as a minimum.

We bought the defeat on ourselves with that 1st half, but the officials were very friendly towards Newcastle.

Ref wasn’t great today for us. Gave lots of soft free kicks for them and not us. The pen was probably a pen but I put my house on us not getting that at the other end. Elanga was at fault quite a few times at not covering hall effectively - CHO showed second half how to play defensively whilst being effective going forward. Everyone having a pop at Aina should rewatch how many times he had 3 players to deal with.

Midfield was rubbish - MGW stood on Bruno and played into their hands - he should have dropped 10 yards. Anderson was off it and Dominguez can moan all he likes - if he plays like that he will be on the bench for a long time.

Yates is what we missed first half - organised and disrupts - we lose a bit of drive forward you can argue but I’d like to look at stats with and without Yates this year. I think Nuno quite unfairly put the Bournemouth first half performances on him.

A bit worried by how tired we may be v arsenal now after that - however it’s a great opportunity as they are ravaged by injury up top.
